From our partners at TVJax, Barbara Colaciello on the Tonight with Jim Alabiso Show. Barbara is one of the more vibrant theatre creatives in the city, and her upcoming show 'Life on the Diagonal' promises to shine in a fairly amazing year of theatre. Check her out, getting the Alabiso treatment after the jump!

“I’m extremely passionate about getting people to stand still,” says Barbara Colaciello, storyteller, performer, playwright and educator.

“I find that really interesting. A person with ADHD is trying to get other people to stand still,” I say, being an Improv to the Rescue student of hers for over a year now.

“I gravitate towards them because I have to stand still to listen to them. I’m at my stillest,” she explains.

Barbara will be doing anything but standing still during her performance of “Life on the Diagonal”. The one-woman play is an autobiographical piece about mixing it up and growing up with ADHD. Barbara doesn’t remember what the “H” stands for but she makes ADHD her strength. French singer Edith Piaf said, “use your defects; then you're going to be a star.”

Barbara explains, “Diana Vreeland [legendary editor of Vogue] had a huge nose so whenever she took a photo she did a profile because that’s what made her interesting. She used it.”

“Improvisation is about learning how to recover. Reflecting on what is really important and to be able to use it. So that you could live and learn and reflect on it; see the humor in it. My life is a mystery and I’m investigating that mystery.”

Life on the Diagonal” is unique with each iteration. Barbara adapts and updates the piece as she evolves. It’s a must see at the 5 & Dime Warehouse 700 E Union St. Unit #1-J Jacksonville, FL 32206. 5:00 pm.

Come join Babs for a deliciously quirky evening of storytelling through monologues, original music, and poetry. Written and performed by multi-faceted performance artist Barbara Colaciello, this one woman show celebrates life’s mysteries and imperfections with humor, sexuality and a little A.D.D. madness.

Seamlessly integrating storytelling, and spoken word with her original music, Colaciello steers us on a bumpy ride that weaves and diverges from her Italian Catholic upbringing in New York to her incarnation as wife, mother, and artist in North Florida. Along the way, fueled by her vocabulary of self-definition, she takes her listeners on an intense, yet funny journey through an experience-strewn landscape, into and beyond the “land of should”.

Life on the Diagonal premiered in 2001 at Players by the Sea. In 2008, it had its NYC debut at Theater Lab with director by Robert Arleigh White at the helm. Barbara then had the privilege to workshop it with Patricia Birch, Tony award winning choreographer for Grease.
