In its first act, this playful riff on traditional Grimm's fairy tales recounts in hilarious fashion the trajectories of Cinderella, Little Red Riding Hood and Rapunzel as they struggle to live "happily ever after." During its second half, the work plunges deeper into the meaning of happiness and contentment with a mixture of compassion and humor. Ultimately, the play's haunting epilogue delivers a thoughtful message of what it is parents decide to tell their children.

"This is our third year, and our advanced level artists wanted to take on a challenge," stated Ian Mairs, producer for Apex Theatre Studio. "It doesn't get anymore stimulating than Sondheim."

Vocal director and co-producer Matt Morgan added "it is a pleasure to scale such musical heights with these performers because they bring energy and passion to their work. But I made it clear from the start; this music would push them out of their comfort zone. "

Schools represented in this year's production include University of Florida, Florida State University, the University of Central Florida and Flagler College as well as area high schools such as Nease, Stanton, Episcopal and Douglas Anderson School of the Arts.
