This month is the annual Anniversary of the Stonewall Uprising, the most pivotal event in the long march towards LGBT equality. Karrissa Wade and Hemming Park will be hosting the Stonewall in the Park June 28th from 1pm till 10pm to commemorate it. There was a time when being Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual or Transgender (LGBT) meant living a life in the shadows. The Stonewall Uprising of 1969 was not the first act of LGBT protest. Nor were the political groups that formed in its aftermath the first to fight for LGBT civil rights. But those six days of confrontation outside the Stonewall Inn transformed the LGBT population into a civil rights movement that has inspired empowerment throughout the world. Join us after the jump for a pictorial history of the events.
