Girls Rock Jacksonville exists to cultivate self-empowerment and positive identity development in female-identified youth through music experimentation, DIY media and peer collaboration. Going into their third year, the organizers of Girls Rock Jacksonville have been preparing for their inaugural summer camp taking place at Waverly Academy from July 28 through August 1, with a showcase at Karpeles on August 2.

The camp has grown exponentially since the organizations' start in summer 2012, doubling the size of their original occupancy of 30 campers. In efforts to accommodate and enhance the newly expanded camp of 60 rockers, Girls Rock has created a campaign to amp up their instrument arsenal, secure extra funds for camper scholarships so that all campers can attend, and cover other general camp costs. The campaign begins tomorrow, May 31 and ends on June 28th at igg.me/at/girlsrockjacksonville

JACKSONVILLE, FL – Girls Rock Jacksonville, a local non-profit whose mission is to cultivate self-empowerment and positive identity development in girls through music experimentation, DIY media and peer collaboration, is running a crowdfunding campaign to raise funds for gear, camp costs and scholarships for campers.

For their upcoming camp at Waverly Academy (July 28-August 1), Girls Rock will have around 60 campers, requiring roughly 10 of each instrument—guitar, bass, drums, keyboard and microphone—to accommodate each camper. Since the organization’s start in Summer 2012, the gear utilized at camp and during the showcase has been loaned or donated through our community’s in-kind support. As one can imagine, coordinating and maintaining 60+ borrowed instruments and miscellaneous gear before, throughout and after the week of camp is intensive. Girls Rock believes that an inventory featuring 2-3 of each instrument would help to alleviate those stresses and allow for that energy to be placed in other important aspects of camp.

GRJ is heading to Indiegogo, a popular crowdfunding platform, and reaching out to their community to help build a full time arsenal of instruments and gear. By reaching their funding goal of $5,000, a portion of the donations will also assist in camper scholarships and camp costs.

The Indiegogo campaign launches on May 31 and ends on June 28. Awesome perks awarded to donors of the campaign include t-shirts, mixed cds and zines created by the organizers, screenprints, and free access to the showcase on Aug. 2 at Karpeles Manuscript Library and other Girls Rock Jacksonville related functions.

Girls Rock has many exciting events taking place during the Indiegogo campaign run, like the Launch Event on May 31 at Rain Dogs, a Ladies Arm Wrestling Tournament on June 20, and $1 of every pint sold of the "Siren" this month, Intuition Ale Work's ladie's brew, is donated to Girls Rock.

Individuals can make donations at igg.me/at/girlsrockjacksonville.
