Califone is a band often described as enigmatic, textured, folk-experimental and/or cinematic. Although these adjectives are appropriate, New Music Editor Lisa Thomas simply refers to them as all around bad-asses. Join us after the Jump for details on the new Album!

Straight from my hometown of Chicago, Califone is a band often described as enigmatic, textured, folk-experimental and/or cinematic.  Although these adjectives are appropriate, I simply refer to them as all around bad-asses.

Their most recent effort, "Stitches" is comparative to their previous albums "Roomsound" and "Quicksand/Cradlesnakes" as the intimacy of home recording is back in place paired with lyrics so courageous they send chills from the tips of your toes to the top of your head.

"It was a much more solitary process, and that freed me up to feel less self-conscious about singing and writing more personal lyrics.  I tried to keep the songs visual and poetic, but it was more important to allow myself to feel and be vulnerable and not hide in the music.  Instead of writing from my balls and brain, this time I wrote from the nerves, skin and heart." say Tim Rutili of Califone about the creative process in making "Stitches". In short, this album is poignant, stirring and extremely difficult to not have on repeat.

Currently, the band is doing its second living room tour, booked with the help of Undertow music. These shows take place in the living rooms/homes of fans.  They are intimate affairs (reflective of Califone's music and personality) usually limited to 30 to 60 people per show.  No tickets are sold at the door and you have to buy a ticket online in advance to get the address of the show.

Stitches is set for release September 3rd, 2013 digitally, on LP and CD. Tour dates are listed, below, as well.
