Folio Weekly Invitational Artist Exhibition

This juried exhibition will showcase local artists.  Artists are invited to submit original works of art (paintings, photographs, works on paper, sculptures, mixed media).

Blue Star Museum Program:  Free Admission to Military Personnel and Their Families This Summer

The Cummer Museum of Art & Gardens is proud to announce their involvement with Blue Star Museums, a partnership with the National Endowment of the Arts, Blue Star Families, the Department of Defense and more than 1,500 museums across America to offer free admission to all active duty military personnel and their families starting Tuesday, May 29, 2012 through Sunday, September 2, 2012. The Cummer will also extend this free admission to include retired military families as well. Valid military identification is required for FREE entry and will include full access to the Museum and Gardens, as well as the special exhibitions.

In conjunction with Miradas: Ancient Roots in Modern and Contemporary Mexican Art: Works from the Bank of America Collection, The Cummer will participate in the Museum on UsΠprogram, which allows free general admission to the Museum on the first full weekend of every month to all Bank of America or Merrill Lynch card holders. The Cummer will participate in this program** beginning Saturday, June 2, 2012 and ending Sunday, December 2, 2012.

**Offer valid the first full weekend (Saturday and Sunday) of the month. Photo ID and any Bank of America/Merrill Lynch credit or debit card must be presented. One free general admission limited to cardholder.

Folio Weekly Invitational Artist Exhibition Opening
August 24, 2012 – December 2, 2012, 6:00 pm - 8:00 pm
Up & Cummers and Folio Weekly will host an opening night party for the Folio Weekly Invitational Artist Exhibition.  This juried exhibition will showcase the work of local artists. 
Guests will enjoy live music, drinks and hors d'oeuvres.
Free admission for Cummer Members / $5 for Nonmembers

Ever wonder what goes into putting an art exhibition together at The Cummer? Exhibition Designer Vance Shrum has been with The Cummer for 34 years and has great stories to share. You will learn what goes into selecting an exhibition, the challenges of unpacking art, how art is hung to tell a story, the process behind selecting wall colors, and so much more.

Painting Fundamentals: Session VI
August 1, 2012 - September 5, 2012, 1:00 pm - 4:30 pm

This class introduces painting to beginning students and strengthens the skills of intermediate painters.  Each student will have individual attention and work at their own level. Learn composition for landscape and still life, color theory, and techniques in acrylic, watercolor, and mixed media. Ages 13 and up. Featuring instructor Allison Watson.

Dinner with the Consul of Mexico for Central and North Florida:  An Authentic Mexican Dining Experience!
August 10, 2012 - August 10, 2012, 6:30 p.m. - 9 p.m.

The rich cultural vibrancy of Mexico comes alive through the sights, sounds and flavors of this once in a lifetime opportunity.  You are invited to experience an evening of art, fine dining and conversation with Alberto Fierro, the Consul of Mexico for Central and North Florida.  Begin the evening with a tour of Miradas: Ancient Roots in Contemporary and Modern Mexican Art: Works from the Bank of America Collection and discover vivid images of the land and people of Mexico.  Mexican Consul Fierro will share insight into the history, the culture and the revolution that inspired this work.  The evening will continue with festive music, a savory authentic Mexican dinner and lively discussion.

Art for Two & Art Adventures

In August our children’s classes will focus on Miradas: Ancient Roots in Modern and Contemporary Mexican Art: Works form the Bank of America Collection.  After touring and talking about the exhibit, students will create a modern portrait using modern printmaking techniques.

Art for Two – August 11th – 10:30am -12:00pm – Ages 3-5
Come make art with your little one and enjoy gallery visits and time in Art Connections.

Art Adventures – August 18th – 10:30am -12:30pm – Ages 6-12
Classes in painting, printmaking, collage and construction with changing themes.
