DOWNTOWN

Duval County Courthouse

Streetscaping continues as the anticipated May 2012 opening approaches.

If one-laning Duval Street is considered feasible by COJ Public Works, it should be suitable for a number of downtown streets.  In addition, why not add bicycle lanes to the extra space gained by eliminating vehicular lanes?

Court Yard Cafe

Tenant buildout of the the Court Yard Cafe is now underway in the Courthouse parking garage at Adams and Pearl Streets.

7-Eleven - Julia & Forsyth

Interior buildout continues at the BB&T parking garage.

7-Eleven - Union & Main

Vertical construction is underway.

Nature's Table at Everbank Center (second floor)

Nature's Table Cafe will operate and manage the refurbished restaurant and cafe space on the second floor of Everbank Center.  The $1 million project is projected to open in September 2012.  According to Dick Larsen, President and Founder of the 75-restaurant chain, "In over 35 years of doing business, I have never been more exicited about a project than this one with Everbank Center."

Underbelly

Live music venue Underbelly will be opening at 113 East Bay Street on May 24, 2012.

Sweet Lady Blue

Work continues on Sweet Lady Blue, a southern and soul food restaurant that will occupy the former Cafe 331 space.

Baptist/Wolfson's Tower

Could you imagine trying to fit a reconfigured Monroe St in front of the courthouse? Also, I think it would be nice to highlight some of the new stores that have opened in the Landing. I was able to buy my Mothers Day gifts there, supporting local businesses is a good thing.

"Walker's

Park & King's Walker's Wine Bar is being converted into a tapas bar."

FYI, Walker's is now The Garage. I stopped by Friday night and It's a full bar that serves food. I took a look at the the menu and it consisted of various sandwiches, cheese steaks and what not.

perhaps the one lane Duval Street is a temporary thing until all buidling construction is finished....remember, the painted lines aren't the final pavement markings

Maybe its just me, but the last couple construction updates seemed to have a certain buzz to them.  It almost feels like things are finally turning around and all of these smaller projects are preempting something much bigger.

I've also gotten much more positive opinions from others in the local construction industry about the resurgence of the commercial sector.  Maybe 2012 will mark the end of the downturn here locally.

Huh?

So the exception was granted to Dahlia's?  That's good.

I thought the same thing.  It looks like there isn't even enough room to do so, although I know there is, technically.   Looking at the pics, it seems hard to believe anyone thought it was a good idea to rebuild Monroe.

The new cafe/bistro in SPR will be called Kool Beans, if i'm not mistaken. Also, I'm not sure if this is news worthy, but JEA continues major construction at their site just South of 1st & Laura. You can best see it from Laura (new above ground water tank).

Once you walk it, the idea of forcing a street in there is even more shell shocking and ludicrous.  It would reduce that space to being a glorified highway median, forcing pedestrians to be on the lookout for a reverse vehicular traffic flow.

So far it's looking like a good year for small businesses in the core.

yes...it passed with some conditions (bouncer required, no drinking outside, fewer seats than originally proposed)....the question now is will the decision be appealed?

There's a gourmet restaurant in Tallahassee called Kool Beanz Cafe that I always heard was really good.  Any relation to this project by any chance?

Looks like chains are starting to take more of an interest in R/A... I'm not a fan of Tijuana Flats at all. Their sauces are great, but their food is so-so and their "vibe" is artificial (its from Orlando after all). I'd much rather see Chipotle in the 5 Points area.

Definitely a lot of good things going on in the core though. Great news

2/3 of the downtown EverBank build-out is having furniture installed and should be occupied by mid-June.  the final third should be done by the end of July.

I noticed Monday night that another store has opened at the Landing, it is in the old Foot Locker location. I believe that end of Landing is now 100% occupied.

Is there no news or information about the 2nd Julia's Urban Grocery location, proposed for the vacant building just off the intersection of Riverside Blvd. and Prudential Drive (south side of the E corner)?  I thought they were going ahead with both locations?

Mean while another locally owned store has opened at the Landing. The entire wing is now full.
