Urban Construction Update - February 2015

Major construction projects have returned to the landscape of Jacksonville's urban core. Find out where (and more) as we take a brief look at the status of various developments under construction in and around Downtown Jacksonville during the month of February.




SPRINGFIELD





23. Terrawise Homes

TerraWise Homes is building several eco-friendly, “net zero” homes throughout Springfield.












24. 122 West 8th Street


Proposed Exterior Elevations

Land clearing efforts are underway on a 14-unit affordable housing apartment complex at 122 West 8th Street. The proposed multi-family infill project will be developed by Operation New Hope.

25. Northeast Regional Transportation Management Center

Construction continues on the Florida Department of Transportation's Northeast Regional Transportation Management Center. The building will be on the campus of state office complex near State and Jefferson Streets.









26. Uptown Kitchen & Bar

Uptown Market is being expanded and rebranded into the Uptown Kitchen & Bar. The project includes adding a 620 square foot covered patio area.

27. Julius Guinyard Park & Pool

Renovation work is underway on the City of Jacksonville's Julius Guinyard Swimming Pool on Jefferson Street, in the neighborhood formerly known as Sugar Hill. Constructed in 1951, the swimming pool was originally called "Blodgett Homes Pool" and is one of the oldest public pools in the City of Jacksonville. In 2006, the park was renamed after Mr. Julius Guinyard a former City Parks employee.





28. 1330 North Laura Street

This 4-unit apartment building at 1330 North Laura Street is in the process of being renovated.





29. Springfield Restorations and New Construction

Every week, it appears that more restoration and residential infill projects are getting underway in Springfield.




















SAN MARCO




30. Cricket Wireless

Cricket Wireless will be opening soon at 2000 Hendricks Avenue.






31. 1665 San Marco Boulevard

Renovations are underway on an office building owned by Jimson Land, Inc. at 1165 San Marco Boulevard.









32. Ronald McDonald House

Site preparation for a 3-story addition at the Ronald McDonald House continues. Located near Nemours Children's Hospital, the $7.6 million project will add 27,671 square feet and 24 rooms to the existing 30-bedroom facility.











33. Beer:30

Beer:30, a small craft beer store in Riverside, will be opening a new store and tap room in San Marco.The store will be located at 1543 San Marco Blvd. and is expected to open soon.







34. Kitchen of San Marco

Education Corporation of America, which owns Virginia College, plans to open a fully-staffed teaching restaurant in the Southeast in the former Oral Explosions building at 1402 San Marco Boulevard. Students at Culinard, The Culinary Institute of Virginia College, will train at the Kitchen on San Marco, which will feature local and regional foods and employ a professional staff of about 40 people. Originally, it was anticipated that the Kitchen on San Marco would open in early January 2014.  Current plans call for a Spring 2015 opening.

35. 1550 Hendricks Avenue

This small retail center at 1550 Hendricks Avenue is being renovated by Mago Shopping Center, LLC.









36. First Citizens Bank & Trust Company

Construction is nearing completion on a $10 million, 6,000-square foot office for First Citizens Bank & Trust Company on San Marco Boulevard.
