The push to redevelop the Jacksonville Landing may have cooled down but life is good at Sleiman Enterprises' developing Atlantic North shopping center.

Located at the heavily traveled interchange of Atlantic and Kernan Boulevards, Atlantic North is a 40-acre, 234,325 square foot power center anchored by Academy Sports & Outdoors, LA Fitness, and Earth Fare. In a 2013 Jax Daily Record interview, developer Tony Sleiman envisioned his latest development as a major retail center.  He may be right. In 2015, Belk will relocate from Regency Square Mall to a new 95,000-square-foot space currently under construction at Atlantic North. This comes on the heals of organic foods grocer Earth Fare, opening their first store in the local market earlier this fall. That 24,000-square-foot grocer features a 41-seat cafĂ© area near its entrance.

Like the most recent Jacksonville Landing proposal, Atlantic North isn't 100% commercial. 320 luxury apartment units are being developed on 14 acres of Atlantic North property, just behind the retail center. In addition to a 7-11, there's space for additional big box retailers and seven outparcels along Atlantic Boulevard for restaurants.  Immediately to the east, Sleiman owns 100 acres for a phase II.  The company also owns shopping centers anchored by BJ's Wholesale Club, Walmart and Kohl's immediately across the street from Atlantic North.

Getting something done in downtown Jacksonville may be a struggle but life is good on Atlantic Boulevard. "If you want to be in that market, I own all three corners. It's a nice position to be in." Sleiman proclaimed in that 2013 Jax Daily Record interview. Here's a look at Jacksonville's latest major retail development.
