Safety in the NFL has always been a topic of conversation and at the annual owner’s meetings this week, they voted on rule changes that are supposed to make the game safer. “Supposed to” is key, here. Changing rules will not change the way players play the game.

Safety in the NFL has always been a topic of conversation and at the annual owner’s meetings this week, they voted on rule changes that are supposed to make the game safer.

“Supposed to” is key, here. Changing rules will not change the way players play the game.

This week, NFL owners approved a rule that would eject a player who gets called twice in one game for unsportsmanlike conduct. It is just an experiment for the 2016 season and their plan is to re-evaluate it before making it a permanent rule.

Seattle Seahawks CB Richard Sherman was very vocal about this, completely disagreeing. He is known to get chippy during games, so I’m not surprised. But I find myself agreeing with his opinion. Sherman called Roger Goodell and other executives just a bunch of “suits” who have never played, and therefore they shouldn’t be changing rules they know nothing about.

While that statement is a little extreme, I get where he’s coming from.
