Go Skate Day in Hemming Plaza

It doesn't take much to add life and vibrancy to downtown's Hemming Plaza. The programming of a variety of events on a regular basis can instantly change the public space's image. Kona's Go Skate Day illustrates this phenomenon. Today, Metro Jacksonville shares sights and scenes from last week's Go Skate Day in Hemming Plaza.

About Go Stake Day

Every year on June 21, skateboarders around the globe celebrate the pure exhilaration, creativity, and spirit of one of the most infuential activities in the world by blowing off all other obligations to go skateboarding.  In Jacksonville, a non-profit called PB&J (Party, Benefit & Jam) and Kona Skatepark hosted a skate jam for Go Skate Day in Hemming Plaza in Downtown Jacksonville. The event was intended to bring awareness for the Kona School combining skating with academic studies.  It accomplished this goal and further validated the idea that all Hemming Plaza needs is programming to energize it and the surrounding blocks.

The piece in the paper about Tony Allegretti skateboarding across from the Chamber was pure genius:

Pictures are in equal parts  impressive and mildly hilarious (his tie!)

To be fair, Allegretti was pretty helpful in getting the permitting through.  Actually instrumental.

But you are right, the tie is hilarious. ;)

The wholly unironic self promotion is just typical at this point, lol.

Another great downtown event. Is the city listening?

If the City is not listening , GET ON THE MEGAPHONE.

Pictures speak 1000 words and this photo-essay says it all.

Tremendous job, Metro Jacksonville!!!!
