Two Key Spring Position Battles for Gators
While there's obvious competition at quarterback, two other positions - one on offense, one on defense - will also feature fierce competition in Gainesville.

With the roster still taking shape at Florida, you could argue every position is up for grabs in year two under Jim McElwain.
The position where the competition has the biggest spotlight is quarterback – and for obvious reasons. There should be some clarity there by the end of spring, but 15 practices still is just a small fraction of time to bring along the right quarterback. On defense, the idea is to build depth in numbers and have at least 18-22 guys you can count on every game.
Two position battles that are especially interesting besides quarterback are running back and safety.
RUNNING BACK: Last season, the Gators had a running back (Kelvin Taylor) rush for 1,000 yards for the first time since 2004. But the ground game was hardly sturdy, averaging 126.9 yards per game, 13th in the SEC.
SAFETY: The position battle to watch this spring on defense is between Nick Washington (6-0, 198) and Marcell Harris (6-1, 207) at safety. Both juniors played in a backup role last season and have waited their turns; now they are vying to start opposite Marcus Maye.
