That's some interesting stuff about Millennium Specialty Chemicals; Looking at the steel structure towers from a distance, I was clueless as to what was going on there until now. Great job Lake as always.

My Grandfather worked at Glidden, Glidco, Millenium for 34 years.. also with no accidents. The tours they put on are fun, and if you ever get the chance, although I'm not sure what their website is, go take a tour. Friendly people who work there, alot of whom have known me since I was a baby. Anyone live near here and miss the lunch horn? Or the mint smell that would radiate throughout the area?

This is the neighborhood from which my mother and grandmother hailed form. I've seen pictures of them standing out infont of their house off Calvert st in the 1940's with that industrial complex still looming in the background. I remember them telling me the neighborhood used to have a far worse stench than the what's currently put out by Milennium Speciality Chemicals today.

During my early visits to Jax (early 80s), their stench used to mix with the paper mill's and blanket the entire Northside.

Growing up in Jax (70's), whenever the family would go on a road trip by car, I always new when were close to home on the way back by the stench that filled the car.  We would alway joke in the back seat that it was dad farting up front behind the wheel.

Neat! Blue Boy is pretty much the best thing in the history of best things. They now serve a "monster burger" that's roughly the size of a large pizza- it's insane!

That barber shop pictured used to be Fred's Barbershop- my grandfather and I went there for years and years. He collected hotwheel cars and kept a big shotgun by the window. If I think about it hard enough, I can still smell the talc and clubman aftershave.

Yeah it was a far worse smell back in the 80's, but it got better after time and that mint smell is something I miss. My Grandfather would come home with the smell on his clothes, and my Grandmother would joke he smelled better coming home from work than going to lol.

The one thing I hated about Norwood though was the maze of roadways, and the big dip in the road on the way to Glidden.
