Pancreatic Cancer Fund Raiser Bike Ride
« on: June 03, 2007, 11:48:35 PM »
Having a family member die from pancreatic cancer made me decide to host a fund raiser to help stop this horrible disease.  If I help raise 1 dollar or 1,000 dollars I will know I'm helping solve the problem.  Would you help me?  I need bike riders and sponsors.  Thanks in advance.  The ride is modeled after the MS 150 but we plan to only do about 50 minutes or less of riding downtown.

Could you tell us a bit more about what the ride involves, such as...is it a power ride, distance/endurance, etc?

The complete details haven't been worked out but we do know this.  The location is to be downtown and it's to be a fun ride with family and friends.  All are welcome including gear-heads and cruisers; however, the ride is going to be very targeted toward slow enjoyable cruising.  Imagine a relaxing bike ride with your mom and dad. Given your dad isn't Lance.

Now that's something I'd be very interested in...what date are you thinking about having it?

June 30.  Which isn't much time to get the word out, get bikers and sponsors; however, I'm counting on the good nature of this forum, and the genuine good nature of bikers to make this a successful.

Darn....I'll be out of town....but would've enjoyed participating. I hope the word will get out. You might want to post it on all 3 boards/forums. Once you have the details all worked out, you can also post it on just about every local news, radio and TU websites.

I would if I had the time.  Truth is, I'm going to just use this one knowing that the good minded people who are a part of this board will help me get the word out.

We got some details worked out.  Here's what it's looking like:

teams of 4
$40 entry per team
beer
beer
beer
giving away 2 bikes
1 bike to the team with the fastest time
1 bike to the team with the best costume
beer
beer
and  more beer

How does that sound?

It certainly sounds like things are coming together for it! I really wish I were going to be in town for the event. Do you have a flyer made for it? If so, I know you said you don't have enough time...so if you do, I'd be more than happy to help with getting it posted on various sites. Let me know, you can PM me and I'll give you my personal email address to send me the flyer and/or all of the details one would need to get the word out.

You have to talk to Denise Pritchett at Traffic Engineering to get the permit to close a street and her telephone number is 387-8862.  She'll fax you the documents needed to get the permit.

You have to talk to the Sheriff's Office to play music outdoors.  The Sheriff's telephone number is 630-0500 and they will tell you to contact community affairs at 630-2160 if you want outdoor music.
Sargent Proper is the special events coordinator. (I wonder if Sargent Proper knows Sargent Pepper.)

I received the fax from Traffic Engineering.  The permitting process seems pretty painless; however, I do have get a Certificate of Insurance ($1,000,000 Liability) before they grant the permit.  Anybody know where to go for that policy?

Would the American Cancer Society be of help, is there a local office to contact?
