I finally got a recycling bin!
« on: March 26, 2009, 07:16:47 PM »
I moved into a home in Miramar in September 2008--the first time I've lived in a single family home in Jacksonville.  After getting settled in, I realized I would need a recycling bin, so I called the city and ordered one.

After several weeks, I followed up with the city to find out that they were on backorder.  I followed up again, and got the same answer.

Well, about a half a year later, I finally have a recycling bin!  I wonder how many other Jaxons went out of their way while waiting for a recycling bin, as I did, by distributing it among my friends, rather than just throwing things away?

I have two... one for paper and one for plastic and cans... :)
In a boat at sea one of the men began to bore a hole in the bottom of the boat. On being remonstrating with, he answered, "I am only boring under my own seat." "Yes," said his companions, "but when the sea rushes in we shall all be drowned with you."

Bin-hog!!!!!

Same thing happened to me...I requested mine about the same time you did and it took several months.  The good news is, the new ones are a heckuva lot bigger than the older ones.

Same prob here, kinda. I've had my house for 8 years, I finally got 3 recycle bins, which I fill weekly. Don't ask.  2 weeks ago someone ran over all 3 FULL and busted all 3. I called the city. If course they can only give 1 per household. They told me it would be 4-6 weeks. Ugh. It took 1.5, but I still need two more.

Recycling costs a lot of money.  Landfill space is relatively cheap.  Thank you for not recycling.

You can come and pick up my trash or recycling at anytime and do anything you want with it. I just want it gone from my house.

Do you HAVE to use specific recycling bins or will some other type of bin work?

City of Atlanta cut back from once a week to once every other week recycling pickup.

^ Just buy a keg and get it refilled when it runs out!   Then pass your bin to the neighbor.  ;D

There's no rule that says you MUST use the blue bin. They're just more identifiable, that's all. Plus, it looks good to your neighbors who see that you put one out and it makes them recycled too.
But if you get a big plastic tote bin and paint a recycling logo or word on the side, then that'll work.

Hey Compound, I actually have a spare blue bin you can have.

It took over 6 months for us to get our bin too. We were using a rubbermaid tub for a while, until one day the trash guys decided to take that bin. An angry email and the next week we finally had our blue bin.

Has anyone had a confirmed story on if our Recycling is actually getting recycled?..Hmm They don't do styrofoam..and I did hear about landfill dumping by the city a couple of years ago.
OH! I did see an older man whom was obviously a private contractor with at least 80 or so brand new bins in his pick-up leaving a cardiac clinic..He was in St Nicholas last week and should be dropping your bin by any month now.. ::)

Be different, take your blue bin and spray paint it PINK!

#6 styro is not recycled. Not much use, but 1-5 is recycled.
