Ferrosource LLC asks for $100,000 city grant for LaVilla/RYD steel facility

This won't get big press but it is pretty cool to me to see an old abandoned industrial complex off Myrtle Avenue coming back to life with a collection of smaller manufacturers paying decent salaries in LaVilla and New Town. The Thybar Corporation opened a roof curb plant in one warehouse last year. Now Ferrosource will possibly lease some space. The complex also has the Emerald Trail being built through the middle of it at the moment.

A New York City-based metal fabricator and distributor is seeking a $100,000 city grant to open a facility on Blanche Street in Northwest Jacksonville.

A project summary issued July 25 by the city Office of Economic Development says Ferrosource LLC is considering a $2.5 million investment in leased space at 1011 Blanche St. to create steel products.

The company told city officials its plan would create 50 jobs in Jacksonville within five years.

This project is in what is also called the Rail Yard District and I hear many more great things in this area are in the pipeline.  For now, check out the multiuse Dennis & Ives project at Myrtle and Dennis streets. 

The Emerald Trail travels extensively through the Rail Yard District and should bring it further development.  It could be the next Brooklyn one day.
