No Lot J, no problem: 15 other projects moving forward

The Jacksonville Jaguars plans for a mixed use infill development at TIAA Bank Field's Lot J died earlier this week. For those who may be wondering what's next for Downtown, here are 15 projects continuing to make progress that will bring additional residential, retail, entertainment and hotel rooms to the urban core.

Amen! The impact of these projects will do much more for the actual downtown than Lot J.  The combined ask from the city for all 15 of these projects is probably less than $250M.  Between the Laura St garage, The Trio, Bread & Board and the rooftop bar that will create some clustered activity.  Same with the new area of the Independent Life building, First Baptist/Federal Reserve, and the Ambassador.  That will be a whole new hub of activity in a formerly dead part of the CBD.  It's a shame that the rest of the projects are so isolated.

An easy thing for the DIA to do would be to figure out how to work with the owners of Wells Fargo Center and BOA Towers to make their ground level retail storefronts more interactive with Laura Street, while also finally addressing Snyder Memorial. When combined with the VyStar, Trio and Barnett projects, we'd have three continuous blocks of activity opening up to the Landing lawn and riverfront.

An easy thing for the DIA to do would be to figure out how to work with the owners of Wells Fargo Center and BOA Towers to make their ground level retail storefronts more interactive with Laura Street.

Now would be a great time for this.

Wells Fargo is getting ready to redo their entire lobby (include renovations of the cafe), and BOA was just sold.

I am elated and happy that these projects may start and could come to fruition. Just wish we had the activity that Orlando and Tampa has or will have relative to downtown construction and development; but THIS is better than nothing. For Jacksonville, all of this is huge, but Jax can do much, much better!
