Brooklyn projects show need to define primary streets

Not all Downtown streets are the same, and the Downtown Design Review Board's discussions of the proposed Home2 Suites project in Brooklyn show that Jacksonville needs to adjust its approach. Namely, we need to hash out the difference between primary streets – high-traffic commercial corridors – and low-traffic secondary service streets supporting them.

Will the update of the downtown design guidelines have any opportunity for outside (*cough* fine folks at The Jaxson) input?

The update to the BID will hopefully include some public involvement. However, anyone interested in providing public input should stay attention and make a personal effort to seek out participation opportunities. I wouldn't necessarily leave that the selected consultant to do. Without knowing the scope, I can see a situation where the type of outreach needed for truly inclusive community input may not be scoped to the proper level...or the firm may not have the adequate staff expertise. I've witnessed this with quite a few projects over the years in my career.

^Update: The consulting firm has been selected and an update to the BID is anticipated to be completed around mid-2021.

Who got the contract? Are you familiar with their experience in jobs like this?
