JaxPort is interested in purchasing all or part of the land where JEA demolished the St. Johns River Power Park on the Northside, bringing a new dimension to JEA's quest for bringing "once-in-lifetime" development to about 1,200 acres.

The large tract of land off New Berlin Road is near the Blount Island terminal owned by JaxPort on the St. Johns River, so the location could mesh with the expansion of JaxPort's cargo shipping operations.

I wonder if this is play to ensure and improve rail access to Blount Island?  I believe the line out there now is on an easement through JEA property.  That site is pretty segregated geographically from the rest of the JaxPort properties in that area by a lot of marshland.

Logistical question from a guy who knows nothing about power plants.

The Daily Record mentioned that, before being closed, the plant was going through 4.5 MILLION TONS of coal a year.

That’s 25 million pounds of coal a day.

Where was that much coal coming from each day? By train? By truck? That’s a ton of coal to move each day.

They also have a coal conveyor system over Heckscher Drive down to the a docks so it appears they also could receive coal by ship.
