^^^I don't get the correlation with what I said and the song in the link (was it because I said that I'm an average guy?) but whatever....That song pretty funny though.
Exactly.  I read your post saying you were just an average guy and thought of this song.

^^^I call BS on "Jax not being a household name" This is 2019 buddy, not 1974. Jax is a major city in FL; no matter how you spin it, compare it with Tampa or Miami etc, it doesn't change that fact. Stop it with the downplaying....

Jacksonville is BY FAR the biggest 'Jacksonville" in the USA, but sometimes the city is listed as "Jacksonville, FL" because there are so many other cities with that name. It's really no different than a newspaper listing Kansas City, MO; Portland, OR; Rochchester, NY or Richmond, VA (which all have notable counterpart namesakes in other states).

If you don't know Jax by know, you are awful in US geography (and probably couldn't name 20 state capitals). I know every major and notable city in the US (I'm an average guy) it's really not that hard. That "where's Jax" charade was cute at first, now it's over.

Nah. I live in LA and have lived in Maine and Tennessee. Traveled all over the US. People only know of Jax if they follow football. Those that haven't will always, without fail, ask "where's that?" when I mention I'm from Jacksonville originally (if it comes up).

Jax is a major city in Florida maybe, to Floridians. Mention Florida to anybody out of the state and they think of Miami and Orlando.

To cut to the chase, this article of unfair BS, simple as that. The elite ivory tower partisan media (Bloomberg News, who thinks nothing exist outside of Manhattan) singled out ONE CITY out of an entire state, even though significant internet cafe crime is happening in other parts of the state (I provided the evidence above).

So excuse me for defending my city against of bunch of elitist hacks living across from Central Park in plush skyscrapers.

The article is about Jacksonville finding a way to shut down these internet arcades where as other cities have not. It's not saying Jax has (or had) the worst interest arcade crime.

Exactly. FLORIDA didn't enact these measures, Jacksonville did. There is NOTHING in the article that isn't fair IMO. It is I-10 East that is 'woke' and over-sensitive.

I agree with those who say Jacksonville isn't well known outside Florida and the S/E.  In Oregon, people hearing me talk would ask if I was from Texas.  When I said Florida, they would say Orlando?  I said no, Jacksonville.  Oh yeah, uncle Jack was in the navy there, or something similar.  The Jaguars have put us on the map, but back when I was in the Army in the 60s people I met were more aware of Youngstown, OH, or Ogden, UT than they were Jacksonville, FL.

People only know of Jax if they follow football.

Also people that atleast have a "C" level in US geography....

I know what someone will say next.... "My uncle graduated top of his class at MIT, and was befuddled when I mentioned Jacksonville, FL"

Although I'm sympathetic, I-10, I don't see that as a negative article. If anything, it's complimenting JSO while acknowledging these things are a problem across the country.

But snaketoz . . . "in the 60s people I met were more aware of Youngstown, OH, or Ogden, UT than they were Jacksonville, FL."

Come on, now.

*As* aware of those places, perhaps. But there's no way in hell a generic interaction with people showed *more* awareness . . . unless you were in the Ohio or Oregon region of the country -- and that reality wouldn't be noteworthy at all.

How weird that we casually insist no one, relatively speaking, knows about Jacksonville unless they are football fans, apparently ignorant that America loves pro football?

We aren't nearly as unknown as some people insist nor as unknown as artsy / touristy polls indicate.

^^^Maybe I'm overreacting then, I dunno. It's just something about the elitist tone of these MSM 'journalist' that rubs me the wrong way. "Jacksonville, known for it's strip malls" What city in FL doesn't have a shitload of strip malls? Almost all of them have plenty.

I agree that the "Jax is 100 percent unknown in the US" crap is offbase. Now if someone were to say "Jax is a blip on the radar globally" they would be spot on, and that would be more reasonable. Keep in mind, Jax is #40 in metro population, ahead of cities like OKC, Raleigh, Memphis, Richmond VA, Louisville, NOLA, SLC, Hartford, Birmingham and Buffalo; Out of all of those cities (some more well known then Jax) only Raleigh is more faster growing than Jacksonville.
