Founded in 1887 in Tallahassee and situated on the former plantation site of Duval County namesake Governor William Pope Duval, Florida A&M University (FAMU) is the fifth largest historically black university in the country by enrollment and the only public historically black university in Florida. A trip to FAMU's annual homecoming is also a true authentic Floridian experience that can also serve as a black economic history lesson.
