5 Points Tavern Goes Burgers and Balls!
« on: July 18, 2018, 09:41:48 PM »
My partner and I just had another outstanding meal at Five Points Tavern, BUT were shocked to see what is shown in the photo.  Our waiter explained that "Chef Jeffrey" was changing formats and going with a downscale Burgers and Meatball concept in about 2 weeks.  Shocking, as Five Points puts out some of the best food in North FL, but we're sure whatever direction they take will be a good one.

That worked!
So, the same meat, but if it round it is a ball; flat a burger?

I dunno know anything about what the new menu will look like, but the chef surely knows what he is doing.  Why the change?  I dunno either.  The food has always been world class,  and we travel quite a bit so we know a thing or two.

Not happy about it.

Feels like an April fool's joke.

I like the current format. The owners probably underestimated how much messaging was needed to overcome the stink of O'Brothers.  An advertising campaign would likely be a better solution than format change.

I've always heard that place is great, but I've never been and I don't know many others who have been since the Obros change.  I agree that advertising would do a great deal for their business.

Yea, you might be right. I will say I've been a couple times, never left disappointed (and Hannah is Great!), but you're right....there's something off there and I think it might be that they didn't do enough to overcome what it once was. They're going upscale in a building that really didn't house upscale previously (O'Brothers then Dona Maria's before that).

I'm not in the restaurant business but I agree something's off.

My wife and I have been there once. We left somewhat underwhelmed. We each got one drink and one entrée with no appetizer or dessert and our bill was $60 before tip. I got a burger (which was somewhat burnt despite requesting it be cooked medium) and fries and she got a chicken dish. Neither of which justified their price in our opinion. Maybe we just ordered the wrong thing. Also, we were seated upstairs which is a cool space, but somewhat tight and for whatever reason they put another couple right next to our table despite the rest of the place being empty. If they are changing their menu, I'll try it again at some point.

Funny that Derby on Park just dropped burgers and is going upscale. Five Points Tavern is now adding burgers and going "downscale."

I heard good things about FPT but I think this is the right move for them. The outdoor area doesn't exactly invoke images of an upscale restaurant but it's an awesome space that will do well with the casual restaurant crowd (like O'Brothers at its peak).

The co-owner claims that the main reason for the change is the small size of the kitchen.

I want to go on record that I am very interested in the new format even though I like the current one.  I will go ahead and request some big steak fries with some spicy ranch.

Food for thought, “Burgers and Balls” seems to be a good way to go out of business.

Just walked by and the building is locked up with a “For Lease” sign out front.

holy crap that was fast, I was on a bike ride over around there just a few days ago, I thought I saw some people in there. never even got the chance to see how the new menu was...

cool looking bar, had a good bartender with decent cocktails, but I never tried their food. I guess therein lies the problem, huh?
