^Good for Dan, and the rest of the self-made YouTubers hitting it big organically off the back of their hard work, without the backing of big record labels, or the Disney marketing machine, or whoever else. I love it.

Very interesting point!

The apocalypse draws ever nearer   ;D

remc86007:
If you think about it, it's no different than going to watch a sporting event.

It strikes me as seriously different with only some tangential similarity. One is an unscripted athletic competition involving either individual or team effort, the other is a manufactured *and* scripted event involving . . . (spuwho) . . . a dramatic script ? ? ? As such, it's remarkably passive. Isn't it? Making it more like a night at the (amphi)theater?

And with that I think I just clarified things in my head. So, hell, to each his own. A very happy 4th to one and all.

^Happy fourth.

I don't know about Dan, but the vast majority of game streamers are literally playing games live. There is nothing scripted about it. Often they play multiplayer games against other teams of players. Also, it may not involve physical strength, but it is an exercise of precision, decision making, teamwork, and speed.

During a trip to Seattle last year I was exposed to this type of gaming event as several teams were staying at our hotel.

Had no idea that gaming had become a spectator sport, but apparently ESPN is dabbling in the live gaming coverage.

It has really exploded in Asia, but there is some presence of competitive gaming in the US. Some games require a very high number of inputs to be competitive. Check this out: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YbpCLqryN-Q

Even though watching gaming tournaments doesn't personally interest me, I think of it as a natural progression from watching less sophisticated activities (the physical kind) to watching more sophisticated activities that require more mental acuity. If 100 years from now, people are still paying to watch grown men tackle each other I'd be surprised. I enjoy a good Jags game (when they occasionally occur) but I wouldn't be heartbroken if our current sports evolved into something a little more sophisticated.

I'm going to stop now before I piss too many sports fans off or further derail this thread haha

Sounds like the sort of thing that should be on "The Ocho".

From Spuwho's description it sounds like this was more of a performance than live gaming. Probably makes sense for something he's got to do in front of an audience like 40 times in one summer.
Do you believe that when the blue jay or another bird sings and the body is trembling, that is a signal that people are coming or something important is about to happen?

Wise, wise decision. My inner neanderthal had already received the wait, wut; I pity the fool alert   ;-)

I hope everyone had or is having a great 4th of July.

I just conversed with some folk who went to the Chicago/Doobie Bros gig at Dailys.

Sideways rain delayed the concert followed by oppressive heat under the roof with no breeze.

Me thinks the Jags will install some of those quiet blowers and put them under the first balcony.

They use something similar at Chase Field in Phoenix when the roof opens.

At a minimum it will keep the air flowing and stop the oppressive heat on the main floor.
