« on: January 13, 2017, 05:57:06 PM »
Went today for lunch - ordered the X-Large Pho Tai for $9.25 (Is a MASSIVE bowl)

Is very, very good and CONFIRMED: the Pho broth is made from scratch

(btw - it's pronounced fuh, which is the name of the noodles)

Actually, it's *not* pronounced "fuh". Vietnamese is a tonal language and the O has a tone value (I think it might be a falling and rising tone). So, in a way, it's just as accurate to say "fo" as it is "fuh" as neither is really correct.

Thanks for providing a link that exactly confirms the point of my post. The woman does not pronounce it as "fuh". She pronounces the tone.

Having just gotten back from Vietnam, and eating more pho than I know what to do with, Adam is correct here...  ;)

Although it's fun to wind up aldermanparklover, I am not too bothered about the pronunciation. It's just that I grew tired of hearing food snobs and hipsters tell people they were pronouncing it incorrectly - when they themselves weren't saying it correctly either!

you are correct about saying it as fo ... I had mistaken your short o as sounding like long oo (which is how I hear people incorrectly say pho) but a quick trip to a youtube phonetics video set me straight.

but thanks for trolling my promotion of Pho Today - you should try it if you haven't

We go here every time before a showing at Tinseltown.  We've been hitting Regency more since the renovations, but this is a good reason to head back to the T.
