Sidenote, but somewhat related: I've long thought we in the black community unnecessarily miss out from participating in the festivities around Florida-Georgia week by not having some signature community events during that week. For instance, something creative and fun at James P. Small Park. I know the large majority of white people would be too scared to come mix and mingle but . . . black frats & sororities? Not so. Invite alumni of EWC, FAMU and Cookman to participate, too. Atlanta University Center folks and Fort Valley State students and alumni.

There' so much more that could be done to show off the city, and so much of that could begin during Florida-Georgia week.

Much of the Northside of Jacksonville is, in my opinion, more naturally beautiful than most of the Southside. It's too bad people's prejudices often get in the way of them enjoying it.

I have taken pictures of the Beaver Street rail yard with the skyline many times. I have AM, Pm and nighttime pictures at deferent times of the year. It's really nice at sunrise or when a storm is coming. So why would JSO stop me from taking them, ask for Id, and lecture me about the Patriot Act not once but twice?! It's a great view! What is their problem and what are thy being taught at the police academy to result in me taking pictures of the skyline?

After growing up on the northside and leaving for the military and college, I returned to never live in the N/S again.  I lived in Arlington, Southside, Intracoastal West, Fernandina, and now find myself back in the N/S.  I love living here now, but if you want anything unusual, we must cross the Dames Point.  No craft breweries, no exotic foods, not much in the way of good eateries.  We have much less traffic, but with all the new neighborhoods going in I think things are changing.  The River City Market Place is fair, and the new UFHealth hospital is great.  We just need some Riverside/Avondale/San Marco/ and Town Center amenities.
