ART RePublic
« on: October 12, 2016, 05:16:19 PM »
Case Maclaim is starting a mural on the parking garage at Forsyth and Main. I took a look at some of his work. Looks like it will be an awesome project. Does anyone know any details about the other artist and/or other mural locations?

Her name if Jessica Santiago.  She is setting up a gallery in the Elk's Bldg.  She is using the entire main areas in the lower level. Her establishment is called WallStreet Fine Art I believe.  The artist doing the above mentioned work on the side of the building is from Germany.  I met him but his name escapes me.  I believe that she is doing the projects without engaging any entities related to the city.

Jessica is quite the positive person ... headstrong.  I expressed to her that the implementation of her plans regarding the gallery and the building murals will provide a great positive to the core environment.

She and her associates .. and artists ... have been meeting in my cafe, and enjoying the occasional browse in the bookstore for several days.

In any case, her plans seem to have not only more energy and quality behind them, but more money too -- that is, as compared to some of the  previous gallery and art projects.

I intend to assist her as I am able.

Since I am spearheading the Murray Hill Mural Project I know there are several local artists who could have contributed to this, but I also understand that Art Republic is looking to make a big statement by bringing in better known artists from out of town, something we are also hoping to do in Murray Hill as well. That being said, I wish local artists would see this more as an opportunity, nothing is stopping any of them from creating their own murals or public pieces during this event and cashing in on the buzz it is creating. I also know from speaking with Jessica personally that there are opportunities for local artists to help out and assist on the murals for Art Republic. Personally I'm hoping to pitch in and be a part of it, and if there are any talented local artists looking to do murals they can contact me, I have wall space in MH. (donate to the MH murals at http://www.murrayhilljax.com/get-involved/mural-project)
It's time to move past being a city with potential, and become a city living up to it's potential.

2016's event made a huge visual impact in Downtown.

Can't wait to learn where the 2017 murals will go.
