I have to navigate that junction so infrequently, and usually for such limited purpose, that it is still hard for me to process the need / benefit but it sure is one hell of a bunch of work.

I travel through it daily. I was surprised to hear it's 2/3rds complete. It seems like there's a ton of more work to do. The core reason for the project is to replace the aging Overland Bridge. With the replacement of the bridge, safety and capacity enhancements are also being added.  Having a full interchange at Atlantic/Philips will do wonders for accessibility in the neighborhoods surrounding I-95.

^Agreed. It doesn't seem 2/3 complete.

I guess the idea is they are building the Collector/Distributor roads first, shifting ALL traffic to them, and rebuilding the mainline road. If they don't have cars to deal with (which they might not if they shift all traffic), then it's just demolition and rebuild. How long does that take?

From what I understand they are going to shift all northbound traffic to that C-D road.  Then they are going to demo/rebuild one side of the overland bridge at a time, while shifting the southbound traffic to whichever side isn't under construction.

I think it makes sense.  I drive it everyday and I commend them on so few delays.  The project has been pretty smooth.

The only major impact I felt from the project as a daily commuter was the 5 pm backup on the Acosta bridge due to the one lane merge onto 95 south for about...a year or so I want to say..but it has since been opened back up to two lanes.

Between this and the construction on 295 in Mandarin I wouldn't know what to do if I didn't see construction cranes & orange cones everyday.

Too bad they couldn't have put some originality in some of the concrete work instead of the government design language called "Blah Generic".

They're replacing crumbling infrastructure.  Apparently the I10/US301/railyard overpass should be on the short list.

^ It is scheduled for reconstruction in the next few years.  They have been working on a flyover design that negates the cloverleaf disaster that takes drivers from US 301 NB to I-10 EB.  The challenge was acquiring the necessary ROW and getting all the permits (including ones for going over the RR tracks).

A contractor should be selected by the end of 2015 with completion around 2018.
