Hozier in Jville!

Andrew Hozier, the Irish rock musician who skyrocketed to fame and international attention following the release of his song Take Me to Church, and then followed up with a solid body of thoughtful, poetic musical work came to Downtown Jacksonville for a completely sold out performance and MetroJacksonville was there for the evening.  Amazing photos and background on Hozier after the Jump!

Thanks for the writeup!  I was not sad to miss this show (this guy bugs the living shit out of me), but I am really glad to see our city pull a show like this with an artist who is currently on top.  I'm used to seeing guys like this in town 5 years from now :)

Bashing Christianity is very much in vogue in modern "culture." Let me know when such "cutting edge" artists write a song mocking Islam. Guess they aren't quite that "cutting edge" are they?

Why do so many people that express outrage about their faith being slighted keep pulling out that "Why don't you make fun of Muslims too, hmm?" card out of their ass? I get it - You feel Christianity and practicing Christians get a lot of shit in today's society and its not fair and it's not right. Fair point. But anyone that insinuates people that pick on the Christian faith exclusively and not Islam are essentially cowards and secret Evangelical Muslims is like a 5 year old boy that gets scolded by their mother who whines and cries how their older/younger sibling doesn't get punished as harsh for a similar transgression and how unfair that is.

And just like that petulant boy, if the swift arms of justice suddenly swooped in and fair retribution was righteously imposed, that wouldn't quell your sorrows one bit. So if the "Take Me To Church" singer came up with a follow-up single called, let's say, "Making Out At The Mosque" you'd suddenly be skinny-jean rockin' out to this dude? And all will be forgiven? Right...

All in all, you're just upset about disses to Christianity and have every right to be, but that's all you have proven. But your attempts to prove the hypocrisy of the so-called Christian-bashing society we live in today is laughable in my opinion.

Is he bashing Christianity?  I can't find the quote from Redbaron616 for support of that.  Aren't there other churches that meet on Sunday?

Re: Cutting edge.  2nd verse is about Paganism I believe so that's hip.

If you are a Christian you should be happy that the writer had such a grasp of religious concept as it proves he was exposed to religious doctrine.  That means he has not only had access but had been influenced by a religious institution.  It's his choice to embrace religion or not, but rest assured he had an opportunity to.

Re: Modern Culture.  Our modern culture is heavily influenced by Christian ideals so it makes sense for artist of our time to reference the imagery/verbage.  There are even modern songs I'm sure you would readily claim are pro Christian (or Anti Muslim?) - Hallelujah by Jeff Buckley ( HERE https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=y8AWFf7EAc4 ) and Mumford and Sons (HEAR: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7kQN30-X1bE&list=PLKxB0EE5u8pVJJcQb-16virbHyB2xvO7y&index=12 )

As listeners, we use our own theology to interpret the message when religious imagery is used, but if you ask the artists that actually wrote/perform the songs, their own stance on religions is less denominational and more humanistic.
Lenard Cohen (wrote Hallelujah) - Not Christian ( http://thinkchristian.reframemedia.com/the-generic-genius-of-leonard-cohens-hallelujah )
Jeff Buckley - Not Christian ( http://www.jeffbuckley.com/rfuller/buckley/faq/04religion.html )
Mumford and Sons - Not Christian ( http://www.huffingtonpost.com/2013/04/03/marcus-mumford-lead-singer-of-mumford--sons-i-wouldnt-call-myself-a-christian_n_3009777.html  )
Jesus Christ - Not Christian ( https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2mwNbTL3pOs&list=PL2i8AltammzOlq3gMpoWAa_bhcZSwUCQ4 )

Bottom line is the Take Me to Church song is well written and performed.  I don't think the song is intentionally incendiary, but more about how deeply he regards faith and intimacy.  I hear that because I agree with it.

Conflict cannot survive without your participation.
