fcrotaract.btbjgala@gmail.comJACKSONVILLE, Fla. (January 22, 2015) – First Coast Rotaract is pleased to announce Cathedral Arts Project as the beneficiary of the 12th Biennial Black Tie & Blue Jeans Gala. The gala is going to be held on Saturday, May 2nd from 7:00 p.m. to 11:00 p.m. at the Jacksonville Historical Society’s Old St. Andrews Church. The event is the charity fundraiser for First Coast Rotaract’s 25th Anniversary, celebrating its Silver Year of Service.
Cathedral Arts Project’s mission is to enrich the quality of life in Northeast Florida by unleashing the creative spirit of children in the local community. Rotaract’s goal is to supply over 200 of their visual arts students with art backpacks.
Over the past 12 years, the gala has raised more than $160,000 for various organizations, including Big Fun Box, JLG Brain Cancer Foundation, and the Ronald McDonald House.
Attendees sporting a mix of black tie and blue jeans attire will enjoy an open bar, hors d’oeuvres from local restaurants, live music, and raffle items. Tickets can be purchased in advance for only $50 per person and can be purchased either online at jaxrotaract.org or from any First Coast Rotaract member.
“We are very excited about our beneficiary this year,” said the president of First Coast Rotaract, Lucas Hildebrand. “When selecting an organization, we always look at where we can make a lasting impact, and there is no better place than helping the underserved children of North East Florida. We have been blessed with the support of the community in our past events and we hope they will continue to support our efforts.”

First Coast Rotaract: Founded in April 1990, First Coast Rotaract Club is sponsored by the Rotary Club of South Jacksonville. Made up of nearly 40 young professionals, ages 20 to 35, the club extends the guiding principles and philosophies of the worldwide Rotary International organization to young professionals and emerging leaders on the First Coast through community service and opportunities for personal and professional growth. General membership meetings are held the second and fourth Thursdays of every month at Hightide Burrito Company, 1538 Hendricks Ave. All meetings are free and open to the public. More information about Rotaract can be found at jaxrotaract.org.
Cathedral Arts Project: The Cathedral Arts Project was launched in 1993 by a small group of individuals from St. John’s Episcopal Cathedral who had a heart for both children and the arts. They wanted to provide children in the immediate neighborhood an opportunity for a meaningful education in the arts. Though the original intent had never been to form an independent nonprofit, the Cathedral Arts Project decided to seek incorporation and was designated as a 501(c)(3) charity in 2000. What began as one dance class for 10 students now serves more than 2,000 children through more than 50 twice-weekly afternoon classes and summer program partnerships. Children are learning the arts of ballet, jazz, violin, drumming, chorus, drama, painting, drawing, sculpture and ceramics each year. More than that, they are learning the skills they need to succeed in all areas of life – skills such as self-discipline, perseverance, teamwork and imagination. First Coast Rotaract hopes that the Black Tie & Blue Jeans Gala will be instrumental in making Cathedral Arts Projects mission of empowering underserved, school-aged children a reality!
