A short stint of air service between Charlotte, N.C., and St. Augustine started Friday afternoon, and the major question is whether it will lead to a longer relationship.
ViaAir announced last month that it was starting seasonal service through the North Florida Regional Airport. The carrier has a total of 17 flights scheduled each way between Friday and Jan. 20.
St. Augustine St. Johns County Airport Authority executive director Ed Wuellner said he’s hoping the short-term agreement is more of an audition of St. Augustine as a market.
“We’ll see what happens,” Wuellner said Friday as he watched the first ViaAir landing. “I’m sure we’re going to get together after the first of the year and see where the numbers are.”
