Foodie night market in Downtown aiming to create more evening foot traffic

One Downtown Jacksonville advocate is hoping a food-focused evening market can bring more nighttime foot traffic to the urban core.

Mike Field, whose day job is senior analyst with JPMorgan Chase & Co. in Jacksonville, said the inaugural Jaxsons Night Market will be held from 6:30 to 9:30 p.m. April 17 in the parking lot adjacent to Burrito Gallery at the corner of Main and Adams streets. The event is to be held every third Thursday of the month.

The event will feature about 25 vendors and be “heavily food focused,” Field said. Field is a co-founder of Jax Truckies, which promotes the city’s food truck scene via social media.

I just realized there's a fairly good band (by Jax touring standards) playing at Freebird that night (Local Natives). Hopefully the 2 events don't cannibalize each other. I bought tickets for that show months ago and know of a few others going as well. I'm sure there are enough hipsters in town to spread the love.

Ohhh and its crap that a band like Local Natives is playing at Freebird and not downtown. Downtown needs a mid sized music venue in the worst way. Anyone ever wants help making it happen, hit me up.

Someone is trying to do just that! By turning the old Snyder Memorial Church Building into a live music venue and recording studio/community hub.
I SERIOUSLY hope it gets funded for bands just like Local Natives!

After walking into Snyder last night, it is definitely an excellent candidate for a music venue in downtown. Spoke with one of the volunteers and she mentioned a $4mil price tag to structurally restore the building.

I've been saying that for 15 years. Something holding 500, 1000, 2000 people would change the music scene in a big way.

I know it has its share of issues, but Florida Theatre is exactly that. just under 2000 capacity.

Was talking to one of the "Creators" of the Snyder project last night.  Is currently configured for about 300 seats, but they plan on more - she didn't say how many more, maybe up to 400 - 500?
