Also, I just saw how much we pay the Mayor - over $170,000 a year. The Governor of Florida gets a salary of about $130,000. Is there a reason the salary is so high?

Rick Scott's personal net worth is approximately $83 million--he should get by ok on his $130,000 a year salary!

Oh I agree, but why should we even pay that much? Other cities don't. Orlando pays $160k (but they are trying to raise it $195k ... Which would match that of the NYC Mayor). Shouldn't it based on the economy of the city? Or somehow based on performance?

Jax has a mayor strong form of government, where the position is essentially the CEO of a huge organization. We pay the mayor roughly the same as the county managers of St. John's and Clay Counties. It's a full time job and extremely stressful. I think there are a lot of systemic political issues in Jax, but paying the mayor a reasonable salary isn't one. If it went any lower, I'd fear that we would never get a quality executive or business person, who likely be taking a huge pay cut even at $170k.

^ that makes sense. Of course, Clay and St Johns counties don't have the budget issues COJ has but then again they have the luxury of handling the business side over years, not changing personnel every four years so I am sure that helps. I was just surprised by that.
