Still some work to be done, but coming along nicely. Anyone with time, talent and/or resources for a project knows NOW is the time!

Coffeehouse success is spreading and Cesery project at 3rd & Main kicks off last week of April. Homes led the way, now commercial on Main is starting to roll, too. This boat is leaving the dock...

I think the boat has left the dock.  Springfield looks completely different now, then when I came to town in 2003.  I don't even recognize the 2003 SE quadrant anymore.  I'm just hoping the city realizes what it has on its hands and makes it a priority to merge the gap between Springfield and Downtown.

Lake, I couldn't agree with you more. For those of us who grew up in Jacksonville, Springfield has made dramatic improvements. I too one day hope the City can figure out how to better connect Springfield and Downtown.  We know we can do it via transit, but land use patterns have to change as well.

I was a little disappointed that my house didn't make the photo tour.....j/k haha... :)

Next time, we'll make sure to get your house in there.

As for connecting the two, I think land use is more important than transit at this point.  This is why projects that can bridge the gap like JTA's Laura Street TOD, need to be designed in a manner that's pedestrian friendly on connector streets like Laura.  That project alone, can be all the difference in pulling pedestrians across State & Union.  However, if there's a blank wall and surface parking in between on that block, its no better than the Bank of America drive thru across the street.  The same goes for FCCJ's planned expansion and the revitalization of the Hogans Creek area.

Nice to see some photos of rows of restorations/renovations! Usually the only photos of houses in SPR are abandoned historics or new SRGs, neither of which make up the majority of the neighborhood.

The new coffee shop and bakery on Walnut St., Three Layers, is a huge boost to Springfield quality of life! For those outside of SPR, it's worth the drive.

If I have to live in JAX, I'm proud to call SPR / the SE quadrant / lower Walnut home.

very nice photo tour...Who took the pictures? I would like to hang out one day and take pictures with you.
And speaking of how much Springfield has changed.... I lived on Laura Street in 1985 and it is drastically changed from then.

Great photos.  I especially love the creek detail and the Church behind fccj.  It must be early because I'm fritzing out on the name  :)

Who took the pictures?

I took the shots this past Sunday.  Whenever, I'm in town during the weekends, I try to get out and get shots of various parts of towns or projects.  I'm thinking about either getting images of downtown construction projects this Saturday or driving up to Fernandina Beach/Amelia Island to get some images of downtown and the surrounding neighborhoods, since I haven't been up that way in about two years.

I thought it was probably you taking the photos.....
I just did a real estate photography job near Fernandina Beach and it's a fun place to take pictures. Such a beautiful little town.
And I happened to be born there so I guess I have a special feeling for the place.

Lake, if you go up to Fernandina, you have to take pics of 316 South 6th St.  It was my old house;-)  South 6th is right off of Cedar just as  you pass the Fairbank's house.  I had a view of it from my bathroom window and the Waas house was caddy-corner in my backyard. ~sighs~ I miss that place.  Anywho...

Ok, so I have 2 questions. First, one of those pics was of Dancy Terrace, which I thought already underwent complete rehab, but in the picture it shows only one house fixed up with white pieces of paper (construction permits?) on the others and the grass is completely overgrown and filling cracks in the sidewalk.  So, what happened?

Second, my husband and I were driving around Springfield again this Saturday looking for the bike coop and never found it.  We talked to several people we know who all told us to go to "6th and Main" and that the coop "faced Main."  I saw nothing.  I even looked for Inertia records because I thought I remembered a bike polo thing taking place in the parking lot by Inertia and the coop supposedly was right next to it.  Still nothing.  So, my question is, does anyone running the coop want anyone to come there or is this a psuedo-business being run on the down-low???  Oh, and I'd still like to know where the $%## it is.

I'll keep that in mind and snap a shot just for you.

The developer bailed.  Probably because the market would not justify someone paying nearly $200k for frame houses that size.

I don't think Zombie Bikes is open yet.  According to Urban Jacksonville, grand opening weekend is April 11-13.

Btw, the space will be located on the westside of Main Street, between 5th & 6th Streets, just north of Chan's chinese restaurant.

As the "property manager" of the bicycle/record complex on Main St.----

- Inertia Records closed this last week. Burro Bags will be filling their space this month, using the space as a manufactureing/ warehouse/ retail outlet.

- Zombie Bikes is not officially open for bussiness yet, however feel free to pop your head in whenever and introduce yourself to Devin or Burt (managers). They hope to have stuff for sale mid-month- for now it has been a repair garage. They are working on all types of bicycles. mope heads, and also welding/making tall bikes and other cool variations.

- The Royal Treatment Shop is open for bussiness every afternoon except Monday. Mostly vinyl records, some T shirts and mostly Hip-Hop CDs. Also an office for DJ services for all occasions.

- This whole thing is a work in progress with no budget, so please continue to be patient!

- we desprately need cheap signage so everyone can find us. If anyone knows an affordable sign painter who will trade bar tabs/records/bikes or a little money for their services, please send them our way!

- none of this would be possible without our corporate liason, Tony Allegretti, and our benevolant landlord, SRG homes. So thank those guys when you see them for moving towards good use of vacant buildings in the neighborhood.

- again, this is a co-op with zero budget.... any help from anyone is always greatly appreciated! Get involved- this space is for every one in the urban core to use, and basically everyone who likes to see cool stuff happen! Thank you Phil Collins for donateing the pepsi cooler, thank you to the fellas that painted the inside, thank you top everyone who has bought a record or soda or anything! Dont complain about vacant buildings on Main St.- do something about it! Get involved!

The address of the bike coop is 1520 Main Street, and the number is visible. A description might help, too: single-story concrete block building painted gray with lime green trim. Set back from street (lot in front is where bike polo happens), but should be pretty tough to miss now.

WOW!  Thanks for all the great info guys.  We'll try again this weekend.

Btw, I don't know any sign painters that will work for bikes, but I know that Drew Johnson uses artist friends to help him with his sign painting, so have you thought about doing that?  I know a lot of artists may think it's demeaning somehow to paint a sign, but it's for the betterment of the community.  If I could paint a straight line, I'd do it;-)  Actually, if you have a design you can email me, I can take a look at it and see if it's doable.  I'm pretty mean with a pastry bag so I'm sure I could handle a paintbrush ;)
