Jacksonville Home to Six Playboy Playmates!

Ok, a bit of a break from MetroJacksonville's normal focus on public affairs and policy, and a little bit of local color about our city.  Believe it or not Jville has produced an unusually high number of Playboy Centerfolds.  Only Los Angeles and New York have produced more natives who have gone on to be immortalized as a playboy Playmate.  Stephen Dare has compiled a list of them! Click after the jump for a list of Jville's representatives!

MJ's top pseudo-journalistic energies spent on something of total civic importance. Not.

Looking to increase the hit rate guys? Pathetic.

Aren't there a number of serial killers from Jacksonville, too?

Just another aspect of our city most people do not know... and increasing the hit rate is a good thing...
In a boat at sea one of the men began to bore a hole in the bottom of the boat. On being remonstrating with, he answered, "I am only boring under my own seat." "Yes," said his companions, "but when the sea rushes in we shall all be drowned with you."

I don't think she was from Jacksonville, but I vividly remember the first centerfold I ever saw was mentioned to be then living in Jacksonville. This would be in 1992. Memories....

Haters gonna hate.

Celebration of the human form is not comparable to murder. Promoting discussion about an iconic publication which has long done such, albiet in a somewhat populist and sexist manner, is not 'low brow'.

Okay... maybe it's a bit low brow, but c'mon... MJ needs to grow. Or is it better to keep anyone interested in such a topic away from MJ?

Big tent, fellas. I don't mind if you hate nudie pics, or d-list celeb infotainment. But don't judge me. Sex is what brought me to this planet. Gossip is what keeps me here.

Besides, there is no greater barometer for the state of humanity than popular culture. (Even if you don't like what it reveals)

I'd like to see an unraveling of the thought process behind that serial killer post. I just know there's a mindblowing correlation between murder and naked pics of women with fake breasts.

I'm just saying people of note (and of dubious distinction) being from Jacksonville isn't really a reflection on Jacksonville in any way.

And although I wouldn't say taking off your clothes and posing in Playboy is the same as committing serial murder, I do think it is pathetic (at the very least).

Well I totally disagree Adam.  I think that the culture of a city produces, nurtures and encourages different kinds of people and things.

And really, spuwho, Im quite surprised at you.  What is pathetic is thinking that women (or men) should be ashamed of either their bodies or showing them off.

I would think that you could simply be happy for the success of these women in achieving a pretty difficult goal to reach.  I don't notice you complaining when people similarly admire the success of male athletes based solely on their athletic (and therefore physical) attributes.

But hey, if it makes you feel superior to demean these women as 'less than' or 'pseudo' anything, then I think it says more about you than either these women or MetroJacksonville.

Its clear you have an issue with women and their bodies, since there was no such complaint when we covered the hijinks of Charles Ponzi.

But hey, that's different right?

There's a huge difference between taking your clothes off for a photo and excelling in athletic competition.

Great.  Now I'm going to hear that Jermaine Stewart song as "We don't have to excel at athletic competition...to have a good time..."
The tourist would realize at once that he had struck the Land of Flowers - the City Beautiful!

oh?  What is that difference?

One requires work. I'm perfectly happy if you think Playboy Magazine is great and if you think it's a positive reflection on Jacksonville.

But I'm a little surprised that you don't see the difference between, say, an Olympian and a person who takes naked pictures.

are you under the impression that someone just walks into the Playboy Mansion, disrobes and voila! they become a playmate?  Or do you think a certain amount of discipline, exercise, diet, toning and health has something to do with it?

No, I'm not. But athletic competition is a different thing. Especially at higher levels. There's no comparison.

Whatever, Stephen. That's not what I'm talking about. But even in some of those cases, I would still think it's different. At least those all require skill and training.

And as a feminist, I don't think we should really celebrate what these women or Playboy do. But obviously you don't agree. I think Jacksonville has a lot of great things to recommend it other than the fact that six women were born here and then later in life took their clothes off for Hugh Hefner.

But it's your website and you clearly can write stories about what you want to.

I think that for a feminist, you sound pretty condescending about women, Adam.

Glad to hear you feel that way. You know a thing or two about being condescending.
