I think it'll be an interesting place downtown.  My only worries would be how it would operate during Artwalk, and Jazzfest.  I'd really like to see some more interesting night spots open downtown though.
I'd assume they'd do great during those events because of the heavy foot traffic they provide.

I think the other poster's point was that ArtWalkers, hipsters, artists, musicians, and the like aren't really into places like Latitude 30 and I'd probably tend to agree...but I bet Latitude 30 will bring a different type of clientele and vibrancy to Downtown on other nights.

Even though the average ArtWalker isn't generally into places like Latitude 30, I could see if becoming a big part of Art Walk if they offer special deals or have special events like discounted bowling, cheap drinks, and combo bowling/video game packages.

I also wonder if they will try and make their downtown location a little more hip, urban, and artsy than the Phillips location. Its a great space that could be really interesting if they want it to be.

A large portion of the business at Lat 30 during the day/weeknights is corporate functions, like team building outings and charity functions. I would bet they would do really well downtown since there is no other options for that sort of thing, short of booking something at D&B or having your employees drive across town to the other Lat 30.

Is the average Art Walk visitor a hipster?  Whenever I attend, I see a pretty diverse population mix, depending on venue.

Generally no, but the people who hang out near Adams Street (Burro Bar, BG, Chomp Chomp, Dos Gatos, etc. ) tend to be a little more artsy/hipsterish than other parts of DT. I've been with people at ArtWalk who joke that they feel they aren't cool enough to hang out around there. Your original post was probably right in that there is a lot of foot traffic during events, which should benefit Latitude 30. Perhaps it will lead more people to venture into the Adams St. area.

I was more worried about how it would fit in with the Burro Bar, BG etc crowd).  Would they hang up art at Latitude 30 downtown?  It's a great location for any large business, but that library also has a reputation for different arts in it's hey-day at Artwalk.  I remember seeing people breakdancing in the basement, and seeing great original art in the different levels.  I'm still curious on how well that area takes a more corporate style venue.  It would be a neat place for music and art though.  Of course we'll see when/if it gets built

There are many cities that have diverse venues and attractions in close proximity to each other. I am sure there are many people would walk right past Latitude 30 on the way from Burrito Gallery to Burro Bar, as well as many who would walk right past Burro going from Latitude 30 to Marks, and some who might go to all of those venues.

I'd also expect anyone who sets up in the Haydon Burns to want to participate in Art Walk.

^Yeah, that's what I was thinking.  I don't see it as a huge issue.

This would be a really nice addition if it comes together. I've seen some urban bowling alleys that are really cool, and Latitude 30 has a pretty unique concept. Hopefully this doesn't fall apart like the last couple of deals.

I dont see it falling part, unless its something on LAT 30 end. Luckily, the building not owned by the city (thank God). The city will not really be invovlded that much, outside of approving the design, etc etc. I dont think they are asking for any incentives or anything of that nature, so this should go through smooth unless LAT 30 changes their mind,.

I think most of the customers will come from the urban neighborhoods surrounding downtown.  It will be much more convenient than going down to the Avenues.

I think you are oversimplifying it a little. It will probably be a very complex transaction and the city will likely be involved. One of the issues with past prospective library tenants is financing, which isn't a gimme these days. Especially when you consider the potential costs of rehab. However, you have to think the Latitude 30 crew has their stuff together and that Cesery is willing to work out any issues. Perhaps resident finance guru Field can shed some light.

Then they will have to deal with the city on enterprise/empowerment zone incentives, and you have to think they will ask for some type of property tax abatement. Nonetheless, it should be a slam dunk from the city.

Reminder: the old library is essentially an entire city block bounded by several major pedestrian and vehicular thoroughfares.  Activation on all sides has the potential to do more for downtown than anything done in the past, and any deal needs to be carefully scrutinized and helped along appropriately.
