Thank you for covering a positive and encouraging story like this.  Glad to see they take donations too.

Very interesting article, Tamara. Sounds like a good cause. Do you know if there is a religious element to her charity - i.e. bible study or whatever (or is it pretty much a secular charity in terms of what they do)?

Well, Adam, it is a faith-based organization. So, yes. There is a religious element to it.

My wife bought one of their purses and we bought other items to give as gifts. Kristen is a wonderful person trying to make a difference in the lives of broken people and she is pounding the pavement to make it happen.

Any libertarians want to chime in about how, in theory, prostitution and stripping are empowering for women?

I have known Kristin for about 2 years now and she is extremely passionate about this cause.  One of the first things I ever heard her talk about was her time in India and how it moved her so greatly.  She has a great group of people around her who are supporting her and this project and I know she will succeed in her cause.

They can be, but it doesn't mean they always (or even usually) are....

I don't see how they are empowering to women, libertarian or not. At the end of the day, if you're prostituting or stripping, you're selling yourself as someone's play thing. Whether it excites you or makes you feel like crap, you're someone's play thing.

I think a decent amount of those women may see themselves as the puppet master rather than the puppet. They may get paid to be a toy but ultimately a lot of the time, well for strippers, they control the game.

I don't see how this is relevant as these are not the women rethreaded is attempting to help. These are the women that have no choice. Didn't realize they were in so deep until luckily someone offered them a hand, or the ones that were given no choice in their actions. To these women there is no way even in the slightest that this work is empowering. There is no way soberly these women feel anything but pain.

I agree, Ashley. I only even mentioned it because someone threw down the gauntlet.
