Summer hair accessories
« on: May 26, 2012, 07:36:09 PM »
We live in a state that gets HOT for summer and are you’ve realized how much your strands hate the heat.  Thankfully, there are quick, easy and cute remedies to tame manes during the warm weather.

One summer look that keeps hair looking good day-to-night are fedoras.  They easily provide shade, hide greasy roots, and are most importantly versatile with almost any outfit (they work great for winter, too!)

Gerald Joseph photographed this woman during our street style hunt on art walk.  Although the sun was out, her fedora kept her looking cool.

Another good remedy is a handkerchief scarf.  Whether I wear my hair up or down, this is my go to accessory when I need more control.  As seen below, I wrap the scarf around my head and tie it in a bow on the side.  By tucking my bangs into the scarf, they stay in place just right all day.

Hair wraps work just as well as scarves and can be tied on the bottom right or left for a bohemian look.  Perfect for a trip to Jax beach.

Perhaps the most classic summer hair accessory is the headdress.  It lends relief to all hair types by adding body and hold to the top while the remaining tresses hang loose.  The best think about this trend is it gains more popularity every year so updated designs keep this look from ever getting boring.

Some of my favorites are seen below.

MelMel I totally agree, during scorching temps I always enjoy wearing bandanas or braided headbands for a boho-floridian look.

The following images are from etsy.com

This model has a braided headband from Free People

I love this model's headband, so Native  :D

Hmm ok....how so? This has been trending for the past year, it's quite popular to find this inspiration from the West Coast, or the SoCal wannabe South/Central Florida, and even JAX Beach. I'm just a free-spirited, individualistic individual and express my personality through clothing. We're seeing a convergence of fashionable cultures "East Coasties" incorporating more "native", "bohemian" looks while West Coasters are gaining more edge, and street style in which the East Coast is notoriously known for.

Heh, no kidding. Sorry, but that guy is beyond ridiculous- he looks like someone at Wanee that's zerked out of his gourd on peyote and is looking for his spirit wolf to guide him back to the drum circle.

The best head look for summer is shaved with a prison towel draped over it. Trust me, it's very froyohohomedician.

Agreed, Stephen.  When a new look arises it is often followed by ridicule because it's not already understood, then worn jokingly as a trial without being vulnerable incase it's still shut down, and then when it catches on to enough people it becomes accepted.  Yes, trends do have to endure harsh transitions if there's any chance they'll stick, but people who will wear something while it is still up-and-coming and controversial are commendable to me.

5 years ago maybe the guys headband would stir up more than a couple crazy looks, but I've seen way more elaborate accessories in Jacksonville.  And P.S. I don't just mean elaborate accessories worn by "hipsters," have you ever seen how older women can somehow make a bunch of gaudy jewelry look fabulous?  If not, take a good look at how they're accessorizing next time you're walking around somewhere like the town center or at a country club.

Thekillingwax, the extreme, out there, fashion trends slowly get refined and then we go and buy them from the gap. But those guys and gals that are easily mockable are the ones that lead the pack. We look at them and think "not cool" but they're actually making "cool" for you and I just six months from now.

Does anyone have info or links to good articles about fashion trends in relationship to architecture. I'd imagine their are close links.
