Good hire for the Jags.  For anyone who wants to see an improved Jags offense:

However, this is my expression as a long time Hurricanes fan:

Looks like the Jags decided to keep Sullivan and Duffner. I'm happy about that.

Yes!! Especially Sullivan. Im excited about Duffner and I would expect we'd keep Joe Cullen. We had some great defense coaches, but injuries tore our defense down. It started at the end of the 2011 season, and continued in 2012. Oh well, life is good as a Jags fan right now!

Yeah I really hope they keep Cullen also. I think he's a great coach, he's just lacking the talent. I'd be somewhat satisfied to see our defense come back to be a force next year. I think that's somewhat realistic. I think we are closer on defense than we are on offense honestly. The QB and offense line problem is HUGE.

Our D-line just lack depth and the starters couldnt stay healthy. A few good plugs and the defense will be fine. They showed what they could do, fully staffed, several times this season. And our o-line definately needs help. To be honest, you can gauge a QB's true performance if you have a crappy offensive line. Fixing the line would help us gauge the QB situation. But I think out QB situation is not as bad as some other teams though. when you look at Kansas City and Arizona they dont have anything on their roster that even resembles a QB. On a side note, did anyone noticed our passing offense ended at #21 in league and total offense #29? We were in the bottom of everything in 2011. Hopefully things keep getting better.

Well we are keeping the 4-3 defense. And as several of stated, they are not NOT "blowing up the roster" and starting from stracth as some of us assume. They are going to build around whats already there.

Quote
New General Manager David Caldwell said the building process will be based primarily on the draft. “We’re going to be a heavily-draft-built team,” he said. “We’re going to do this from the ground up, and start with the draft. We’ll supplement through free agency if we have to.” Caldwell also said his draft philosophy is largely “needs-based,” adding, “If it’s comparable, we’ll go with the greater need. You have to go through draft management. You may fill a need in the second or third round versus your primary need in the first round. As long as have a need in the first round you try to get the best available player to fill that need.” Caldwell said he is more apt to focus on need early in the draft with a focus best available player later in the draft. “You have to be calculated in your approach,” Caldwell said. “If you’re a drafter of a team, you can’t select the same position over and over and over.”

Quote
* Caldwell said evaluation of the Jaguars’ roster will begin after the Senior Bowl, and said he’s not necessarily looking at a complete roster overhaul. “We’re looking to build on what we have,” Caldwell said. “We’re not looking to tear down what we have. To build on the players we have right now is the key for us.”

While not blowing up the roster, alot of roster turnover will be cared for by free agency.

Rashad Jennings, Jalen Parmele, Greg Jones, Eben Britton, Brad Meester, Terrence Knighton, Daryl Smith, Derek Cox, Rashean Mathis, Will Middleton. All unrestricted free agents. I could see Smith and Cox coming back but probably none of the other guys. And they also have a handful of restricted free agents like George Selvie, John Chick and Zach Potter. They could be gone as well.

General manager David Caldwell isn't ruling out the possibility that a quarterback could be the second overall selection, though, according to Pro Football Weekly:

"You never know. You've got to go through the process. We'll see. Maybe one identifies himself for us. It's too early. Sometimes it may not look like there's a quarterback now and you go through the process and you find a guy,'' Caldwell said.

While West Virginia's Geno Smith is considered by most to be the top quarterback in the draft class, the opinions on him are certainly mixed and he has been mocked to go anywhere from first overall to out of the first round altogether. For the Jaguars to get a chance to take him with the No. 2 selection, the very QB-needy Kansas City Chiefs would have to decide that he isn't worth the top pick.

But as I suggested in late 2012, one potential way to address a quarterback need is to continuously swing at the position in the draft until you find your franchise guy. A philosophy that Caldwell apparently shares:

When he was asked if he thinks a team should draft a quarterback every year until it hits on one, he said, "I don't disagree with that. You look at where your team is and what your needs are. We are a needs-based (drafting) team. To take a quarterback and see if you can develop him is a good philosophy.''

The Jaguars did not draft a single quarterback between 2003 and 2011, taking Byron Leftwich and Blaine Gabbert in those two years, respectively.

I agree. Thats where they are going to do some changes. I was referring to some on here, and other websites that we need to "blow it up" and starter over, and thats impossible to do in one off season. Anyways, I think potroast may or may not be back. BUT he may decide to go else where because he will no longer get the contract he wants from us. When he lost his starting spot, he lost any leverage he could habe had. I agree about Cox and Smith. Cox will probably get franchised and Smith probably get a 3 year contract. I would be okay with letting them rest of them go. Meester, Mathis and Jones have been around for a LONG time and its time to move on and get some young blood in. As far as DE, we are already stacked and will be drafting another more than likely. I would be shocked if Sleeve, Chick and Lane would be gone. And potter definately needs to go. We are thin at TE. We need to draft another one to compliment Lewis.

The comment about the QB thing confuses. Because he also said you should not constantly for the same position year after year. Also, nobody really knows after one year if they have "their guy". Some some out the gate swingning, and some take 2-3 years to develop.
