not bashing, but out of all 7 NFL head men hired this year, the Jags are the only ones who went with a defensive minded guy.  The league is changing, many of those that failed to see that have been given walking papers this year.

Again, we're not 'football people'.

Let me ask you this, do you think that a defensive coordinator spends more time watching their opponents' offensive scheme or focusing on the manner that other defenses that were able to contain them?

See, it works both ways.

Hire an OC that you know can run multiple types of offenses, assist him in exploiting the opponents' D that our HC will be already familiar with and go.

I think I'm scared because I paid money to watch John Fox neuter his OCs time and time again in Carolina.  Actually, he did that again last Saturday.

IT will all be okay. Caldwell was hired and knows exactly what Khan wants for this team. Gus was hired by Caldwell with the same expectations. If we can put together an old tpye Del Rio team from 2004-2007 (but even better), but add a potent passing attack, I am happy with that. Del Rio's downfall was ignoring the passing game. Thats what crippled our team. I think everything is going to work out good.

2 offensive guys and 2 defensive guys.

Actually two defensive guys, one special teams/defensive guy and one offensive guy. John Harbaugh was a special teams and DB coach.

Schefter reported that the Jags have requested to interview the Saints Pete Carmichael Jr. for the OC position

---- Update ----

Oh well, looks like he's turning down interviews from both the Jags and Eagles

He's still under contract with the Saints, and since they're trying to work a deal out with him and are the ones that have to OK interview requests being that it's a lateral move, it makes sense that the requests were declined.

Once the offseason is officially here, everyone not already under contract is fair game.

This has a different feeling than last offseason. It really feels like a fresh start. I was excited last off season, but the fact we retained Gene Smith didnt sit all that well with me. If we said a new start, that means from the top down. I like that Khan his hiring people in his image and its a trickled down effect.

In fairness to Del Rio, I think he tried to pay attention to the passing game, assuming he had some input into the draft picks of Williams and Jones, and to a lesser extent Lewis and Jones-Drew (who many initially underestimated as a third-down receiving back).  He also hired Koetter as OC based on his reputation for receiver spacing and a vertical passing game.

But when all that didn't work out as planned, I think he reverted to trying to impose the "DEL RIO SMASH!" offense.

Really, many people said the same exact things last season. (5-11)  We all know how that ended. (2-14)  I'll wait until I see what kind of product is put on the field before singing praises.

I'm good with the hire, and I'm looking forward to the 2013 season. I'm not gonna get to caught up with the 'offensive versus defensive head coach' thing like many. Dan Hicken brought up a good point on SFR; Two the most recent prolific offenses were under defensive guys; Tony Dungy (Colts) and Bill Belichick (Patriots) respectively. So just because we have Gus Bradley with a defensive background doesn't necessarily equate to three yards and a cloud of dust. We'll be fine with a good OC, rest of staff, and players throughout free-agency, and the draft.

I see Tucker got hired by the Bears. Good for him. With the right staff, He can piece together a hell of a defense. 2011 was proof of that. And the Bears have a hell of a staff. Im ready to see how that works out for him.

to be fair, John has coached everything.   I believe he's been a QB, RB, and TE coach at stops along the way.  PRobably why he's good.

Our hire for Def. Coordinator so far has been the only hire that I'm not that excited about. We hired the Bears LB coach for DC. I'd assume that Gus Bradley will be heavy on the input as far as defense goes though. Maybe for that reason it's a good reason to not hire a big name for the DC position.
