The first ever Florida Country Superfest will be held in Jacksonville next year.

Officials announced Thursday the two-day music fest will be held in EverBank Field June 14 and June 15 next year and performing artists will be announced in November.

“This has the chance to be a huge event for the community and I applaud the city leaders for getting this deal done,” said Paul Astleford, president of Visit Jacksonville, in a news release. “We will utilize our resources to promote the festival and generate as much publicity as we can as far as we can, to get word out and bring country music fans to Jacksonville next summer.”

Festival Productions Inc.–New Orleans put s on the Bayou Country Superfest in Baton Rouge, La. It has an annual estimated economic impact of $30 million.

This summer, the Duval County Tourist Development Council approved $200,000 to help stage the event.

Should be pretty big, with 3 country stations in town there's no shortage of country fans. I'm glad to see a big concert like this coming to Jax.

Don't most of the big country acts make a stop in Jacksonville when they're on tour already? I'm not digging on country fans, but just don't see this as a big deal compared to some of the bands The Big Ticket/Rockville have managed to bring through.

Sometimes yes. But for example Kenny Chesney just came to Florida and skipped Jax. Either way though, having an event besides monster jam at everbank field is pretty exciting.

Actually he played in Jax first, at Freebird.  I think most people would rather see him in a venue like that than in a stadium.  Now obviously there are a lot less seats in Freebird than an arena ::)

Correct, while a small venue is nice, it's really limited. I think it was also unannounced (meaning, not on his tour).

Anyway, I think I was thinking of Luke Bryan arguably bigger than Kenny right now.
He's got a tour coming up and his Fla cities are:
Tallahassee
Tampa (2 times)
and West Palm Beach

There was another thread about how Jax misses out on a lot of concerts (heck, we only got Jimmy Buffett a few years ago!). So having this big of a venue will be be good for the city and promoters, should the ticket sales do well.

Playing inside Everbank will be great. Maybe the City can see some positive cash flow from something inside Everbank field, since the Jags seem to literally rape them on their deal. Still irks me that the city GAVE all the money from the Everbank naming to the Jags. Water under the bridge. Maybe we will have new video boards and hot-tubs in place, by then???

Shania Twain was the last big performer, at the time, who I remember playing at the stadium. She had an outdoor concert, it was fun, we sat in club seats to see her. Anyone who grew up in Jax remembers seeing Michael Jackson there in the old Gator Bowl too.

Many acts skip Jax because we don't have a good option for their size crowd, or perhaps because SMG is inept at managing our facilities. Either way, we see more graduations at the Arena than actual music shows. All the while St. Augustine Amphitheatre cleans our clocks in music shows, weekly, all because Don Redman and his St. Nicholas cronies need to keep their hearing aids working so they can block all the shows from Met Park. Times Union center is too small, 1800 or so max, and the Arena is too big at 12,000, nothing really in between, except St. Augustine. Thanks Councilman Redman!

Buffett has been coming to Jax for many, many years, just about every year the Arena has been open. It remains a great show, and he can pack them in, for sure.

I'm talking about his current tour in which he's skipping jax:

But back on topic - hoepfully once redman is gone we'll be able to use metro park or something else to compete with SA amphitheater.

Here's the lineup:

Quote
2014 Florida Country Superfest daily music lineup

The artists participating in the first ever Florida Country Superfest were announced Thursday morning at EverBank Field. Performing on Saturday, June 14 will be Jason Aldean, Eric Church, Little Big Town, Big & Rich + Cowboy Troy, and Colt Ford. Performing on Sunday, June 15 will be Luke Bryan, Miranda Lambert, Florida Georgia Line, Easton Corbin, and Joe Nichols.

Any thoughts on the acts? With the qualifier that I know very little about country music, is this a strong enough lineup to fill Everbank for two days at $80 - $500 per ticket?

I don't know all that much about country (other than an old pal of mine Jake Owen), but pretty sure those are some fairly well known and popular acts.

Personally not my cup of tea, but I think it will sell very well and draw a lot of people from out of town for the weekend.

Heard this being advertised on the radio while in Atlanta last week. Like country music or not at least it is getting Jacksonville and Everbank Field mentioned on the radio in the Atlanta market.

Great show last night! Shout out to Misty Skipper, former, press person for Mayor Peyton's staff, for making some calls to have the World Cup put on the televisions as we waited 2 hours for the rain to pass. Great Saturday night show, looking forward to Sunday.

And to think, with the Soccer last weekend, Sharks, powerboats, Suns all last weekend, and this huge 2-day show, there are still people of Jacksonville who will whine and say there's nothing to do in in Jax. Ugh!

And the press said there are people visiting from every State and Canada for this event. Country fans spend money; I read stories where parents bring their young adult kids with them, and they both have disposable income.

Good for the economy. This is going to be a nice yearly event for Jax.

I thought June in Florida was a weird time to have an Outdoor festival. Were there any heat related issues? I feel this may have been better earlier in Spring.

Wonder if they were happy with the turnout?  Now did attendance compare to prior ones held in Baton Rouge? Photos in the paper that I saw for both days seemed to show sparse crowds, perhaps was just the timing or angles.

I think the bigs crowds would have been there later on in the day.  I saw some pics that looked sparse but they appeared to be in the middle of the afternoon.  Not sure why they didnt plan this a little earlier in the year though for the weather.

I have not seen any "official numbers".  Saturday rain was an issue... The start was delayed a couple hours with one act canceled.  The stadium filled up after dark and as the acts got more popular.  Not sure if weather affected Sunday or not...

I noticed some of the photos of the stage were taken from a side angle that showed empty seats... those were the extreme side views and doubt there were even tickets for those areas.  The stage was set up at about the 30 yard line... with a walk out stage going probably to the 50.

Baton Rouge = 135,000 fans over 3 days.
Jacksonville = 75,000 over 2 days.

It drew over 100K but was three days and featured the same acts that played here plus George Strait, Reba McEntire and a few other well known acts.

The field and lower bowl sections that were open for completely full both nights. There were some empty seats in the upper deck. But I cannot say for sure that they were being sold.

Two days, $23.2 million.

That’s the economic impact of country music in Jacksonville, according to a survey released Wednesday of attendees at the June 14-15 Florida Country Superfest at EverBank Field.

Ten interviewers and two supervisors from the University of North Florida Public Opinion Research Laboratory polled 412 people during the event.

A huge success...

Quote
The survey determined that 17,000 visitors stayed in commercial lodgings for an average of 2.39 days, yielding 16,000 room nights and 2.55 people per room on average.

The visitors’ estimated direct expenditure was $14.5 million. Taking into account the number of visitors multiplied by the number of days spent in Jacksonville and the average spending per day, the total economic impact of the festival was $23.2 million, according to the survey.

I find this to be hilarious.  If Jacksonville can't keep a country concert from leaving, what do we have left??  Maybe they are trying to pull people from both the Jax & Orlando MSAs, but I don't know if it will work.

I imagine it is a capacity issue. You could cram 2-3x as many people in Daytona International Speedway vs Everbank. Plus the sheer size of the infield will help give it more of a festival enviornment.

The capacity for the Speedway is going down to 101k next year:

https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Daytona_International_Speedway

I'm not sure why that is, but it's not much bigger than everbank field at 84k max:

https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/EverBank_Field

But you could be right. I would imagine that there's a larger country audience here being north Florida/southern Georgia than central Florida.

Not just permanent seating. The Superfest had seating on the field as well. Daytona's infield is almost 150 acres vs about 1.5 acres for a football field.

A third year of Florida Country Superfest in Jacksonville is not happening.

It was announced that the organizers of the festival have created a new event, called Country 500: The Great American Music Fest at Daytona.

The music festival at EverBank Field brought some of the biggest names in country music to Jacksonville in 2014 and 2015.

In a statement, Festival Productions Incorporated, the group that put on the event said, “Florida Country Superfest had a successful two-year run, annually entertaining tens of thousands of festivalgoers. A change in corporate strategy has led to the creation of an exciting new event for Florida music fans.”

Luke Bryan, Florida Georgia Line, Willie Nelson, more at Speedway's new 3-day music festival

Daytona Rising isn't finished yet, but the new era of Daytona International Speedway — as a year-round entertainment complex — has begun.

The Speedway will host the inaugural Country 500 music festival featuring Luke Bryan, Florida Georgia Line, Kid Rock, Lady Antebellum, Willie Nelson and dozens more over Memorial Day Weekend, May 27-29.

The star-studded three-day gathering, also being billed as "The Great American Music Fest," will be the first nonracing event to fully utilize the track's $400 million makeover into a motorsports stadium. Daytona Rising is due to be completed in January before the Rolex 24 At Daytona and Daytona 500.

"We want to keep adding content to our (Daytona Rising) investment," DIS President Joie Chitwood III said. He added, however, that "racing is in our DNA and that will never change."

Still, "tens and tens of thousands of people" in town could enhance the gene pool a bit. Chitwood said the planned annual festival will give the Speedway the opportunity to "own (Memorial Day) weekend in the community," and thinks it will become "the biggest festival on the East Coast."

The Speedway can accommodate 100,000 spectators in the grandstands alone, and the festival also will allow camping in the track's infield, where the concerts will take place on three huge stages custom built for the event.

Some of y'all sound woefully ignorant of just how much they've done with Daytona International. Major money has been spent to re-invent it.

None of this is a negative on Jacksonville or what was done with EverBank (in fact, it only reinforces how necessary the money for the upgrades was). The newly updated and modernized Speedway is a natural for that festival concert -- plain and simple.
