2003 alumna here. People like to joke that UNF stands for U Never Finish, but plenty of folks do! It just took six years. I loved attending UNF, and was one of the first third-generation graduates (another woman graduated the same day as me, following her mother and grandmother, as well).
Growing up, I visited the campus a few times. When my mother would visit my brother or me in college, she would say "I remember when there were just a couple of buildings!" Now, when I visit, I say that I remember when there were just 40 buildings.
I didn't know Russell Crowe brought rugby matches to UNF. But I do remember sitting in the library atrium, before it was a Starbucks. And I remember when the Green had a more defined ridge with less slope. In the early years, including when my mother graduated in 1980, the ceremony was held on the Green.
Thanks for pointing out Greek Life. That's another point of pride for me.
UNF was listed as a good deal before 2006. US News and World Report has frequently cited it, as well. That was the touted listing when I started and throughout my time there.
I'm glad the school has no football team. The sports programs have always been good (except for those years transitioning to D1), and I worry football would take away the close-knit feel of the campus. I knew my professors while in their classes and they remembered me later; you don't get that at huge schools, and schools get huge with football programs.
