The new Chick-fil-A on San Jose Blvd has such a strange design.

It looks so different from all other Chick-fil-As I have seen. The back of the restaurant faces San Jose Blvd instead of the front and the drive thru lane is so strange. I have heard some people say that they were unsure about how to enter the drive-thru lane there at first. They didn't know where they were supposed to turn to enter the drive-thru.

Went by there for the first time a week ago.  Definitely an awkward approach to the site if having to drive through a twisting pathway the entire lenghth of the adjacent shopping center and not having a good way to enter directly from San Jose, especially if you are southbound and have to crossover the northbound lanes.

My guess is, being a Chick-fil-A, they will have mostly recurring customers who, after the first time, will have it all figured out and fight their way through, not to be denied!  ;D  It is amazing how loyal their following is.

Where on San Jose is this? The only CFA on San Jose (according to Google Maps) is the one at Oak Bluff, which doesn't fit (again from Google Maps) the discussion. For example it is northbound traffic that has to cross southbound traffic (at the signal at Oak Bluff). The comment about the path through the shopping center doesn't track either.  Of course, if the Google Maps are old - my questions are moot.

It is on San Jose Blvd and Old Acosta Rd. It is near the funeral home.

It just recently was built and opened up. Therefore Google maps doesn't have an image of it yet.

To be a bit more clear, the main shopping center is at the southeast corner of Loretto Road and San Jose so many will enter from Loretto to use the light at that intersection.  However, this then means you have to traverse the entire length of the shopping center as the restaurant is at its far south end.  It used to be called the Memorial (yes, related to the hospital of the same name) and, then, Merchants and Medical Shopping Center where Winn Dixie used to be before moving across the street.  The major remaining tenant is Quest Labs and there are a few other doctors in that multi-story portion. Most of the rest of the center is vacant.  Bruster's Ice Cream is in an out parcel in front of it.

This is the second Chick-fil-A on San Jose, having opened only a few months ago.  The first one is on the southbound side at Oak Bluff north of the I-295 interchange and this is on the northbound side of San Jose south of the I-295 interchange.  Per Google Maps, they are about 2 miles apart.  Given the poor traffic light timing and heavy congestion in the I-295 interchange, being on opposite sides of it makes sense has it is a mental and timing obstacle to go through the interchange.  (FYI, FDOT is extending the southbound turn lane on to the Buckman Bridge as we speak as traffic for the bridge backs up in the southbound San Jose lanes for 1 to 2 or more miles on an ongoing basis.  The extension is not nearly long enough so I believe this is lipstick on a pig but, what the heck, it can't hurt  ;D.)

Apparently, there is that much demand for their product.  I understand they both have the same franchise owner.

Ah, I see. Per GMaps Street View, it was under construction this May, and it isn't on the aerial.

That front drive of the shopping center will hold quite a few Chik-Fil-A fans.

Sandy, wasn't speaking for myself, just making an observation.  I am not a big fast food customer, usually only patronizing them when there are no other easy alternatives.  ;D
