The community of Moncrief Park was constructed on the site of a former horse racing track and resort, centered around the 19th century Moncrief Springs.

Cool image I just came across.  This is Moncrief Park when it hosted the Great American Derby and was just as popular as the course in Saratoga.  Racing in Jax ended in 1911 when the Florida Legislature passed a law prohibiting professional horse racing.  The grand stand burned down a year later and the park was platted into the neighborhood that exists there today.
