It's been great seeing Jax form a coffee culture.  A couple of notes:

Droubi's - To me, this place is not a secret to Riverside residents.  Personally, I know it's there, but with so many places popping up, I need it to draw me in or hear something good about it.  They probably should have outsourced their logo and signage instead of designing it with MS Paint. I might have made it in sooner.  Good to hear that the product is solid.  I'll give it a try.

Urban Bean - Still can't stop laughing that there is a place in OP called "urban" anything.  The place looks cool, though.

Vagabond - Samantha, William's wife (not fiancee), bakes there.

Droubi's - yes they still have a stigma of a tattoo place and what not.  They need better, clearer  - more welcoming - signage and they would pick up more traffic headed up King and down College (to Bold Bean especially).

same with Sweet Theory and Southern Roots - more visible signage.

Since you went as far as OP, there's another place on Kingsley called Vino Java Brew House - been hearing good things.  Just a bit farther....Spring Park Coffee in Green Cove Springs is probably my favorite in the state.

Good article. Shout out to Coffee Gringer Slavo and his crew have been there for years, he was way ahead of the curve, in fact I might venture to say he was pre starbucks but I am not quite sure on that one.

Bold Bean is probably always going to be my favorite in Jax.
The coffee is always good and the people behind the counter know what they are doing.

The OP place to go is Vino Java. Great coffee, food and a good hang. It is owned by a relative of the owners of Monty's in Avondale (that hallowed institution). The food at Vino Java is great and well made. Also, the selection of beer and wine is solid.
Also, the staff at Vino Java is the best of the best, helpful and pleasant.

Spring Park (the Green Cove shop- which is great as well.) does the roasting for the coffee served at Vino Java. Also, a friendly staff on the occasions I have been to their shop.

However...

Urban Bean is on my way to work, it is perfect for my commute. However, when they were having their soft opening they were extremely rude when I entered. There was no sign that said "friends and family only." The fellow behind the countered proceeded with a query as to how I was able to enter the building, I mentioned I used the door. He said, "Only family and friends today." (no sign stating that policy)
My response was OK you won't serve me, I understand, but it was unclear that it was family and friends. I turned to leave and the owner had overheard the conversation and raced from the back and said that I could be served. That day I ordered a coffee. The coffee was not bad. However, the experience of playing "Spanish Inquisition" with the barista of urban sprawl, conjured "Foamy The Squirrel" in "Coffee House Propaganda."  That was my first and last cup of coffee from the "Urban" Bean in OP. In the effort to support "mom and pop" shops the Urban Bean has failed at being polite on the first entrance.

Love that Brew is included in this list of coffee shops in Jacksonville. We love that the coffee culture is growing and that we are able to be apart of the scene. Thank you for doing such a thoughtful write up of one of the categories that makes Jacksonville so great.
However, things have changed a bit since the opening of Brew. Since month 3 we have had house-made syrups that include lavender, mint basil, vanilla, chocolate, and an alternating seasonal syrup. We are a multi-roaster cafe that features names such as intelligentsia, Ritual, and PT's. We also have a full brunch menu that includes chicken in waffles, breakfast tacos, and sandwiches made on our fresh made kolaches. We have a list of seven different toasts, and the menu changes seasonally. The menu is curated in house and features an outside source for our bread, 13 gypsies.
We have definitely expanded to meet the needs of the five points area.

Thanks again for including us! We always love seeing the Metro Jax crew in the shop. Just wanted everyone to have the information on all the cool stuff happening in the shop.

I am really pleased to see a few shout outs to the Clay Coffee Clutch - Vino Java, Urban Bean, and my all-time favorite - Spring Park Coffee. I have to admit I haven't made it to Urban Bean since they opened, but I definitely will. Every time I'm in Green Cove Springs I make a point to stop in at Spring Park Coffee. I used to be a boring Americano guy but recently have tried a few of the other specialty drinks and really enjoyed them. Sitting at Vino Java it's easy to forget you're in Orange Park and not somewhere in Riverside. Great food and atmosphere.

Green Cove in general (especially Walnut Street), and Spring Park Coffee in particular, have become the cool spots in Clay. If you're stomping around in our neck of the woods be sure to check these spots out.

My favorite is Bold Bean.  Once again though, nothing comes to Arlington/E.Arlington.  Always have to drive forever to get something that is not a chain.
