For several years during my childhood I95 north ended at Dunn Ave/Busch Dr and moved over to US17 (N. Main St) to go north into GA.  I believe it was like that during the Cuban Missle Crisis when convoys of military equipment and personnel were being moved into south FL.

Great article and photos.  Thanks.

^ I love the cover image.  It reminds me just how far we have "progressed" in Florida over the last 100 years ;)

Great article, lake.

Anyyone who's done business with, worked with, or worked for FDOT knows that this Department is one if the best examples of good government.   We're spoiled, and we don't even know it.

The article was pretty much written by FDOT.  Nothing like a little self promotion.

Yeah, I cut and pasted the timeline from FDOT's website. Other than that, I added a few images of projects from the Florida State Archives digital photo collection.

Always loved the quality of Florida's roads. Granted, without the temperature extremes of more northern states, it is quite a bit easier to maintain as you don't have the shrink/expand problem that brings an annual crop of potholes up north.
