Is that supposed to be art or something over the SkyWay behind San Marco Place? Finally, The Peninsula is getting color, but I still want a night time lighting scheme upon the top.

From what I've heard, it's a roof to keep objects (of all kinds) that might fall off a balcony of the (very) nearby residential tower onto the Skyway.  Did the City make the developer pay for it - since the Skyway was there first?   This is Jacksonville, friend to developers, of course not! The JTA is having to pay for it.

if san marco place developers/jta had been smart they would have made that cover part of a skyway stop -- imagine being able to walk out of your building and onto a downtown-routed transportation option. once city market opens up, someone living in smp and working downtown would hardly need a car.

love that churchwell developers are redoing original signage at top of building. good job ddrb on that one!

Its a cover/sound barrier for the Strand because of how close the building is to the tracks.  I'm not sure who paid for it.

I believe JTA paid for it.

Its a new bar/nightspot that is opening on Bay Street, next door to Nicky G's.

Is the owner of Ivey the same person who was going to open Metro? Do we know any details of this place?

I'm not too familiar with the project, but Stephendare made this post in another thread about a month ago.

Apparently the working name of the club going in next to Nicky G's is the Ivy Club.

The owners have done due dilligence for the past three months, after the landowner tried unsuccessfully to help a club called Metropolis open in the same space.

The new group outright purchased a full liquor liscense for the establishment and has a projected start date of May 1st.

No information about the music or theme of the place yet.

And having toured the space today, I would predict at least three months before any opening as there is still extensive plumbing to do before its ready for a bar or bathroom.

Wow I'm really starting to like what is going on on Bay Street. Looks like Jax may have that district it has been needing for SO LONG. Needs a few more restaurants/clubs/bars/hotels and it should be a great place to go. Still JTA has no plans to go EAST with the Skyway!!!!

TO THE EAST MY BROTHER TO THE EAST!!!!

This cracks me up - did we not realize that this would happen?
