Anyone have information on a building out Beaver Street slightly west of Otis Road?  It is very interesting and I have wondered what used to be there.  There are a faded picture of a cow's head and another of a pig.  An old privy is placed up against the side wall.
It has a nice facade.

I wondered the same thing a few months ago so I did a little research.

The building was apparently a stop along the old Spanish Trail, a coast to coast auto route built in the 20s.  I think it was originally a hotel/inn and it was last a bar I believe.  I also thunk it's for sale.  Cool history either way.

seems this planned celebratory motorcade HQ'd out of SanAntonio could present quite an opportunity for the (hopefully by then) expanded Farmers Market, (showcase the) Laura St. Trio, (make use of) the Landing, and obviously SanMarco, as all pass on to St.Augustine through Jax.

Let's just hope the travelers don't use the FCOB

A story in the T-U described it:

Built in 1839, the Old Spanish Trail, a 15,000-square-foot building at 40001 W. Beaver St., has seen life as a boarding house, a bordello, a country grocery with living quarters upstairs and most recently, a crafts, folk art and antiques store.

Seems to just need perhaps a rooftop cactus garden, pavement removal from the edge of the travel lane up to the brick facade, a few adobe pony walls and tumbleweeds for ambiance.

Very glad this structure still stands

Sweet.  I never knew this existed.  Would be a great site to include in a Reclaiming Jacksonville II.

That structure is no way 1839 vintage.

The property appraiser says 1960 and a total of 12,175 square feet.  The address is also listed as 13535 West Beaver Street instead of 40001.  I don't know the history but the architecture and materials look to be early 20th century.

Has anyone seen this place recently?  Someone has put a ton of money into it.  I have not idea what they are doing with it but I hadn't been out that way in a while and did a double take when we passed the place.  They painted the original brick white though, not a fan of that, but I assumed it would meet the wrecking ball sooner than later so at least that didnt happen.

Wedding venue/event venue if what I have heard is correct. I live out that direction and have been trying to keep up on it. I am glad it is being repurposed, but not a fan of the paint and changing of the windows and exterior.
