^Sounds like you answered your own question.
Do you believe that when the blue jay or another bird sings and the body is trembling, that is a signal that people are coming or something important is about to happen?

I guess so.  I just put them in the same category as Kmart, Target, and Meijer.

^I still don't see why Neighborhood Markets are viewed as a huge negative here.  They really aren't any different from any other average grocery store.  They just happen to be owned by Walmart.

You answered your own question.

Drove by the Wal-Mart Grocery site - they've got a large section of the parking lot fenced off.

Being a WalMart Grocery is probably a large reason the proposed store on Atlantic and Bartram (near University) was killed.  Had it been a Whole Foods, or something "better" it would be open there.
Now there's some really lovely (sarcasm) apartments on the site.

Agreed!

Walmart will be opening a 2nd Neighborhood Market

I agree. An anchor store at Gazebo is desperately needed.

What, wing depot doesn't count? Seriously, best wings in jax.

Heck yeah, Wing Depot counts! They've saved the west end of the strip. Now something is needed where Publix used to be. The wig store, nail salon, doctor's office, and Hunan Wok seem to be doing ok. Another large store would certainly help them out.

Agreed, I don't know if another grocery store could survive there though. There's a WD down the road, a publix on merrill and now this walmart store. What goes in to vacant plazas if not a grocery store? Perhaps a DMV? :/

I think that used to be a Food Lion.

It was Food Lion.

The trend continues. They are putting a WalMart Market in the old Food Lion location at SR 13 and Race Track Road, Fruit Cove.

Food Lions seem to be the prefered location.  I don't know the arrangement of Food Lion and the shoping center owners.  It seems to me the standard Food Lion was around 45,000sf.

One of the things that gets better prices in grocery stores is distribution and buying power from the overall demand and buying levels. It should be pretty good considering the number of super WalMarts and now WalMart Markets.

Gotta be careful what kind of store goes in there. Another Family Dollar, or Aarons would only further ghetto the place.

Walmart Neighborhood sites will really only be in vacant Food Lion as they have worked a deal with Del Haize to back fill the spots.  That is why you won't see them in any old Publix location like Gazebo.  They are opening about 5 in town.

Aldi looked at the market but decided there weren't enough sites for them to take down for the area to make sense.  This could change though.

The only complementing uses for a DMV are gun stores and liquor stores. After visiting the DMV, you are just too exasperated for anything else.

I would think the old Food Lion location at San Pablo & Atlantic, and the former Palencia store would be no brainers. There is a bright side to the Arlington location, they could open a new Waffle House in the parking lot!
