Hemming Plaza Tables & Chairs on their way out?

Despite strong public support for keeping tables and chairs in Hemming Plaza, Councilman Don Redman ignores those pleas by introducing legislation to do the exact opposite.

WHEREAS, in order to completely rid Hemming Plaza of seating, the ledges surrounding the two fountains in the park must be removed, and the fountains filled in; and

WHEREAS, homeless individuals may also choose to sit on the smaller ledges of the planters, these too must be leveled and brought down to grade; and

WHEREAS, as the aforementioned poor might find respite by sitting on the ground, the square must be surrounded by fencing, and made accessible only to upstanding white citizens with good credit ratings and teeth corrected by braces and peroxide gels; now therefore

BE IT RESOLVED that I no longer wish to live in this backwards, shortsighted city which tries desperately to mask it's racism and poor problem solving skills behind a thin veneer of failed public policy.

Hey, let's help the city make money!  Yep...let's put parking meters on all the benches!  (Yes, I am being facetious!)  The chairs are not the problem.  Figuring out what to do with the homeless and the derelicts is the problem.  But it looks like the suggestion is the usual....do something dramatic.  It doesn't have to work--or even deal with the real problem, but golly gee we tried--and isn't that what's important?!  And then let's have another "blue ribbon" committee and long-term project and we can ignore any recommendations--and still have the same problems!  Yeesh!

So Redman thinks that removing the tables and chairs makes the park less desirable for undesirables. So I guess  that leaves the park desirable to pigeons. Do we really have this many ignorant people in this city?

We must destroy the plaza in order to save it!
So I said to him: Arthur, Artie come on, why does the salesman have to die? Change the title; The life of a salesman. That's what people want to see.

Makes sense to me. Just look around downtown. That philosophy has worked so well so far don't you think? Razing everything thing has worked wonders. We can now apply that to Hemming.

Destroy it and make it another parking lot.

Maybe Redman could get a bus and take all of the homeless and undesirables to the edg of town.

Redman can't be bothered with the FIND issues, since this is so important.

Sad that we have very smart folks providing solutions, with some fancy committee, that takes 2 years to study, document, and publish findings, only to be shelved, along with all of the other plans that were done years ago.

Redman is a complete tool.

while generally he's not very helpful, redman is the #1 Council member when it comes to bicycling issues.

removing tables and chairs will solve nothing. that waste of a park on Main St is a prime example.
