It will be hard to tell at any angle, I mean, The Peninsula will only be 5 feet taller that Wachovia/Gate Petroleum/ Riverplace Tower. I'm just waiting for a new 2nd tallest, cough, The St. John.

From a variety of angles it appears that the Strand is the new tallest on the Southbank.  Sometimes your perspective can skew things though given the fact that they are still close in height.  I think it is clear though that the Strand it taller now (and not even finished yet).

When IS the St John due to break ground

Someone mentioned the other day around Dec., although that could change.

i work in between the two so i've been seeing the peninsula go up, to me though it still looks like Riverplace is taller, but there is certainly an illusion from some angles.

Yes, it was mentioned the St. John would break ground in December.  However, 'Chris', said, they technically have until June of 2008 to break ground.  I certainly hope it takes place this year.

I believe the exact contractual stipulation is 18 months from first contract, which would put the final decision in June '08. When completed, it will not only be the first "Green" residential building in Florida, it will also be the tallest residential building in the south. Pretty impressive if you ask me...

I took a drive around downtown from many different angles. The Peninsula is either even with Riverplace or just one floor shy, they have 2-3 more floors to pour til topping out.

The building is already topped off, once they get the cooling tower equipment up there and the housing for it it'll be a little bit taller than it is now but not much. I think for the most part it'll look equal to riverplace and depending on the angle either shorter or taller. the difference will only be a few feet.

The debate continues,  but the peninsula looks just a lil taller than Riverplace to me.

I guess we won't know for sure until someone gets to the roof with some survey equipment or a laser.  :D
